Smart

Today -
6 points
2/11 FGs
1/7 3pt
4 rebounds
3 assist

Vs Bama -
12 points
4/14 FG
4/8 3pt
1 rebound
4 assist

9 PPG - 6/25 from the field (24%) - 5/15 from 3 (33%) 2.5 rebounds and 3.5 assist per game

Creating no offense at all. His 3’s are padded from some garbage time when we were literally down by 40 vs Bama. He’s not a PG. he’s a 2.

Thomas

Today -
18 points
6/20 FGs
1/8 3pt
2 rebounds
0 assist

vs Bama -
21 points
6/17 FG
1/6 3 pt
1 rebound
1 assist

19.5 PPG - 12/37 FG (32%) - 2/14 from 3 (14%) - 1.5 rebounds - 0.5 assists

Wayyyyy too much hero ball. I know he’s a scorer and his assist numbers won’t be high but he’s not even attempting to pass. Much like Wade did with Waters - it might be a good time to sit Cam and bring him off the bench. He needs to realize that he will never reach his full potential if he can’t see the floor and at least kick it out every now and then.

Thomas has the green light but not only does he not look to pass , his shot selection is awful.

Wade may be a decent coach but right now I don't see it.
This team sucks at every level.

Truth.. good or great guard play makes a team shine.. our guards take the game on by themselves.. they are watching way too much NBA.. I personally haven’t seen LSU run any kind of offense in any game they have played this season.. the big men set picks for the guards to drive and either dish off to guys standing still in the corner or they drive 1 against 3 in the paint...makes you really appreciate when you have a great guard like Tremont Waters on your team...he made plays or made other players shine on the court...this team is missing that big time..

He’s forcing so bad right now. Which is why I think it might be a good time to sit him and get his mind right.

Idk though. I’m not with him everyday, if he sits he may be the type of guy to force even more.

Either way- his offense can be a weapon and a liability. He’s not good enough to take the volume that he is. He needs to be a better teammate

You’re right. They seem to have 5 plays

1) Rushed 3
2) Cam Thomas ISO
3) Javonte pick and roll with Trendon
4) Feed Watford in the low post and let him go 1 on 1
5) Motion offense where everyone looks to get the ball and never cuts without it.

It’s just poor all the way around right now and that falls onto wade for sure. I’m a huge fan of his but here’s the thing

You can’t frick up with the NCAA and lose like this.

Either your good enough for us to take the licks and protect you or your not.

His next 6 games are going to determine a lot imo

It amazing that LSU can't recruit a point guard!

His shot selection is terrible, deep step back 3's off balance , pulling jumpers with nobody underneath to rebound, those are possession killers.

Gaines probably isn't ready but I feel he is the best option to run the point. If he can mature and take care of the ball I think the offense can get more movement.

With Smart at the point, it will always be an ISO offense with Watford at the top of the elbow and Cam trying to get his own shot.

No matter what happens at the point, if we can't get a rebound we are going to struggle mightily.

We ran into a buzzsaw in Bama and then couldn't overcome the terrible start on the road at KY. Don't think it is time to give up on this team just yet. Let's see what the next 3 or 4 games bring and then we will know what this team is.

I disagree. Gaines is too confident in his outside shot. Kid has an awful shot selection.

He really isn't getting a chance to be the PG. Once he passes to Cam or Watford he doesn't see it again. Watford tries to run the point and Cam is looking for his shot. The shots he does get are when he crosses half court and takes a shot without passing it to anyone.

PG or no PG, LSU settles for too many perimeter shots, and all five are guilty. Too many times a long range shot is taken with zero Tigers near the basket for even an attempted rebound. That's coaching, or a lack of.

Agreed about Gaines’s shot. I’m
Saying he needs to run the point and forget about his shot or those crazy drives to the basket. At least for now while there are so many other scoring options on the team.

Sad truth is there isn’t a good answer.
