Amazing how so many on this board are willing to overlook his America-hating views just because he wore purple and gold.

Blind devotion to the flag is worse than speaking out against what you perceive to be transgressions made in the name of the flag.

I don't have a blind devotion to the flag. I love my country but also realize we're far from perfect.

But the shite that CJ said, and his refusal to stand for the national anthem, to honor a country in which he was able to earn millions of dollars to play a game he loved, is far too much for me to ignore.

Love them message board patriots. If you're still bothered by this 20+ years ago, you're a pussy.

As did the billions of people who contribute to the internet, because there's none there. You lied about an apology.

I actually saw it on this board years ago. Mahmoud had some video he posted and he talked about a lot of stuff, and one thing was an explanation of how he wished he would have done things differently back then (that is, the NBA was willing to work something out with him, so there was no need for him to act in defiance since there was no opposition to his wanting to pray during the anthem). I'm not going to burn calories looking for it. If you missed it, it's because you wanted to miss it, so just keep being a message board patriot. You're totally not a pussy at all.

I hope he didn't, because no one ever deserved one from him.

What people seem to forget, or simply ignore, was that the guy NEVER EVER did what he did to gain attention...something kind of unheard of in today's world. He simply stopped standing for the anthem. That's not my personal take...I stand and sing. But he chose not to. He didn't make a scene about it, he just didn;t stand or would quietly strecth and focus on the game about to be played. It wasn;t until a reporter...weeks after he had been doing this...noticed and wrote a little piece on it.

Then...BOOM! Suddenly it was a story, and one...BY GAWD...he was going to have to answer for!!!!

So, instead of just letting the guy do his thing all by himself, it was necessary to poke him and then make a gigantic fricking deal out of what was never some protest. This was the literal best example of making a mountain out of a mole hill.

And finally...after having huge swaths of the country come down on him for something NO ONE in any of the areas he'd been playing in even noticed until someone made him answer for it...he lashed out, and then people freaked out. where does this guy get off being pissed that we called him out and essentially ruined his career?!?!?

shite...in 2001 the guy even had his fricking house burned down in Mississippi. But...frick him, right?

Sorry...no. I never agreed with his religious views. Of course, that started way back when he was a Bible beating Baptist reported always having a crucifix in his sock during games, to his conversion to Islam. I also didn't agree with his politics. But the guy always seemed to care...always seemed to be ding things for what he felt were right reasons. The guy didn't father a ton of kids out of wedlock, wasn't beating women, wasn't some "thug." While at LSU, the guy couldn't have been a better Ambassador...

Can you point out where I said he owed anybody an apology? People with strong convictions like MAR don't ordinarily apologize for the stands they take, so I was skeptical that there ever was one.

I challenged an ballskisser to produce evidence of an apology he said had occured. Even with the help of the world wide web, he could not do so.

You need to read gooder.

I'm sure I would probably be hard pressed to excuse a lot of the bullshite that has come out of your pie hole over the years as well. Look in the mirror son.

childish argument. No one is saying we're perfect. Just because we're not perfect doesn't prohibit us from being able offer criticism.

Pretty amazing to me the defense of Rauf on this board. He was a great player for us - I fully acknowledge that. But it pales in comparison to his later vile comments and actions against our great nation.

I guaran-damn-tee if he played his college ball elsewhere, he wouldn't get this type of kid-glove treatment on this board.

No it doesn't.

He didn't do anything bad to anyone. Your 20 year grudge is a childish calorie-burner. He's a good person. He let it go. The nba let it go. What's your excuse, other than that you like logging on and showing the next guy that you love America more than he does?
