Does he have to sit out the 1st half of the 1st game this season because of the targeting hit in the bowl game?

LSU's star safety Grant Delpit was ejected for targeting in the Fiesta Bowl against UCF; he was not a fan of the decision.

The play happened in the first half when a UCF reciever caught a pass, then turned in the direction of Delpit as the safety came in to make a tackle. Their helmets collided and Delpit was ejected after targeting was called, then upheld after a replay review.

No, he will not have to sit.

Just goes to show how important it is to follow the rules and that player health is the single most important part in all of this.

They absolutely have to chance the rule to account for these things.

Targeting cannot just mean their helmets collided.

If the WR is twisting and it’s conpletely u avoidable what’s the defender supposed to do?

Its a Judgment call, that rule should be be broken down adjusted. If it wasn't clear cut Targeting the player shouldn't have to be suspended into a following game or even ejected for the rest of the current game. IMO

No. The punishment is one half of a game. He sat out the second half of the UCF game after being ejected, therefore he served his sentence already.
