I give him an "A" by the way. Love the recruiting ability and the character and his willingness to address his own weaknesses by hiring good assistants and letting them do their jobs. (the anti-saban?) But my favorite traits are his courage and his uniqueness. He's not afraid to make comments that are off the beaten track instead of spouting the usual coach cliche's. And he makes his game management decsions from a "what is the best chance for my team to win" instead of "whats the safest call I can make that gives me job security".
Example: going for it on fourth down against Fla. late in the drive in 2007. 99% of coaches in that situation kicks the FG, why? Not so much because its the best chance for the team to win, because its the "safe" call. You go for the FG, if the PK misses its his fault. If he makes and the defense can't keep Fla out of FG range, well they just didn't execute. Nobody blames the head coach cuz he did the right thing and he protects his multi-million dollar job for awhile longer.
Miles don't think that way, he's not gonna let his fear of losing his job prevent him from going against the grain if necessary to make a call that gives his team a better chance to win. In that situation, with Fla's offense I would have given them about a 75% chance to get to FG position. But you make them have to go the length of the field for a TD...10%. Not to mention the confidence it breeds in the team when the coach believes in them and is aggressive. Every kid I know under the age of 22 is aggressive and wants to "go for it" every time and they just feed off a coach like that. That trait is one of the reasons Miles can recruit so well, the kids love his style!

When I heard les wasn't coming to Michigan I was very disappointed. Y'all have one he'll of a coach. His record speaks for itself. To find a coach as loyal as les is rare in college now a days. Les will have many great years with the tigers. Y'all have a coach who is with y'all for the long hall.

Miles gets a B. Meyer is an A rated coach.

Any grade has to be made also in comparing him with other college coaches. He gets an A. So many Ranters would be graded as a failure in life if they had the same standards placed on themselves.

Easily an A. Who wouldn't take the years he had so far?

Les Miles deserves an A++
1)Record: 42-11 79.2%
2)Bowl Record: 4-0 100%
3)National Championship: speaks for itself
4)solid recruiter
5)integrity
When LSU hired on Les Miles, the university got more than a outstanding football coach, they brought someone on board at the time the single most devastating disaster that Louisiana has ever seen completely disrupted his first football game and consequently season. He proceeded to keep the team together and lead them to the SEC championship game. For that, and the way he handled the 'Michigan' issue, he always will be held in high esteem in my eyes.
PERIOD

A in my book, the guy has pulled LSU through Katrina which Nick Saban would have floundered under those circumstances. Those players needed someone like Coach Miles at that time. He also has a genuine caring towards his players and has put together one of the most talented LSU classes from top to bottom maybe ever. This league is just far too competitive to expect ten win seasons every year when you have inexperience at key positions. Also, I am glad he had the courage to kick R.P. and some of the others off because most coaches take the win at all cost method.

Grade Les Miles after 4 years
3.85 on a 4.0.
1)Has led LSU on the best and most exciting 4yr run in the history of the school.
2)Has outcoached Saban (twice), Tressel, Weis, Coker Johnson, Spurrier, Fulmer, and Shula to name a few..and even beat Urban Meyer in the greatest game ever played in Tiger Stadium.
3)Played a major role in Louisiana's recovery from Katrina, Rita and Gustav as a spokesperson for a University, a State and it's People.
4)Bitchslaped 'little Herbie' and the other pious twits at espn while finding the time to coach his 'damn strong' football team to the SEC championship and the ensuing National Championship.
5)Made a mistake in '07...handled it with class...and corrected it with understanding and patience.
6)Recruits his butt off and loves LSU.
need I go on?

Anything less than an A- is just ignorant. I can only imagine that all of those giving Bs are too young to remember when LSU had D, C, and B football coaches. Archer was a B, DiNardo a C, Hallman a D-f. Saban was an A. How could Miles be anything less than an A-?

Les was explaining his hire and said he consulted with Pelini. Bo thought he should stay within the system.
quote:b/c the on the field results were diminishing; he had worked with peveto and mallory for 4 years and should have recognized their ability/inability to successfully coordinate a defense.
LM is an offensive guy who relies heavily on his DC to manage the defense. Why would he ignore this advice?
quote:Seems like you're putting the lion's share of responsibility on Bo
I'm not saying this excuses his decision, but hopefully he's learned from it.
quote:I agree.
His overall job at LSU has earned an A- at least.

les is solid. not perfect, but you cant honestly ask for much more than what he has done. honestly, even this "bad" season wasnt that bad.
i would bet even the bammers would love to have him at their programs helm (though theyd never admit it

DAMN they have some HOMERS in this thread!!!!
Bowl games A
He has lost this team so leadership is a D
Recruting?? Why did Dickson leave???
BTW If he keeps his hands off the OC and New DC LSU will be fine. Crowrton doesn't run a Big Ten Off.

the guy won a national championship a year ago, hes been to 2 secc championships 1 national championship and 4 total bowl wins in all in just 4 years, so its an A for sure

I agree with you. I think the only major mistake he has made since being at LSU was the Co-DC's and I give him a C for that decision but I give him an A+ for correcting the problem. At least he recognized that it was a mistake and he corrected it. I think that is the sign of a good coach. also, I like the way coach Miles handled the coaching search. He did not air out LSU's laundry for all to see. I think Coach Milies is a class act and I have always liked him.
Just my opinion.

If you look at it that way. OK!! BUTI will say this until I go to my grave. He came into a PLUM situation. He NOW needs to coach the players HE recruits. THIS year NOT SO GOOD!!!! What does the future hold??? This years LSU team was a bad team because of 1 thing!! RP. He let him get away with SOOOO much cause he knew he needed him, AT the expense of the team. The rest of the guys WERE affected. If you don't see that look at SENIOR DAY against Ole Miss. They were not even fired up!! THATS COACHING!!! SORRY BUT TRUE!!!
