I say an A, two western division championships (one of them was in 05 not the best year for Louisiana, plus it was his first year), an SEC title, a NC, and four bowl wins (two BCS). What other coach in the nation could say this except for Meyer?

X's O's---C
Game Planning---C
Team Management---A
Reruiting----A
Hirings---B (Malleveto destroyed this one)
Aggressiveness---D

Overall- B-

Best coached games IMO...At Alabama (yr. 1), At Ole Miss (yr. 1), At Arkansas (yr. 2), vs. Florida (yr. 3), vs. Va. Tech (yr. 3), at Auburn (yr. 4), and all bowl games.

Games I've been dissapointed...vs. TN (yr. 1), at Auburn (yr. 2), at UK (yr. 3), vs. Arky (yr. 3), vs. Ole Miss (yr. 4), at Arky (yr. 4).

Best play-calls...JaMarcus Russell 50-yd PA TD pass to Bennie Brazell vs. Arky (yr. 1), JaMarcus Russell 47-yd pass to Dwayne Bowe vs. Auburn in GW drive (yr. 1), JaMarcus Russel 38-yd TD pass to Brazell vs. Florida (yr. 1), JaMarcus Russell 9-yd TD pass to Addai vs. Miami, Colt David and Matt Flynn pitch vs. USC (yr. 3), Keiland Williams HB toss TD pass at Auburn (yr. 4).

Worst (only naming one offense)...Running same play four straight times in 3OT loss to UK. Defensive schemes this year were questionable at best.

That's my honest analysis. I have always said that to best view a coach you look at year four. Well, it didn't go too well. Miles deserves a mulligan, however. Especially since his first year he had VERY limited time to recruit. His first recruting class was lousy because of it. Ranked 18th nationally, with the last player being RP. Before his 5-stars, LSU was ranked 31st....and that's about where they finished this year nationally.

I think he has the talent over the field to win 8 games this year. Games versus Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia will be CBS battles. QB play will be critical.

give Les a B+. He's undefeated in 4 Bowls including an SEC and National Championship. If he had hired a DC last year I'm confident our loss total would have been 3. His first 3 years I give Les a solid A. Look how many programs fall apart after a good coach leaves. Les has made our program stronger delivering what looks to be the #1 recruiting class this year.

To me any time a guy wins a national championship he's an automatic A for 3 to 5 years without a total meltdown. One five loss season isn't a meltdown... it's a bump. I'd go with an A.

his biggest downfall was relying on advice from Bo Pelini who urged him to stay with Malleveto.
let's not go crazy; les is his own man and made his own decision to hire Malleveto. Don't rewrite history to make it all BP's fault. Les should've seen the decline in the defense starting in 07 and gone in a different direction then.

All good posts. I'm fired up for next season. There always seems to be a cloud over a team after winning a NC. This years new team will be far removed from last years NC.

After producing the best football coaching performance in LSU history over his first four years, how can any clueless immature geek give Miles less than an A+?

Lets see, finished #5 in the nation while the worst natural disaster in the history of Louisiana hits us.; finished #3 in the nation during his second season; won the school's second BCS trophy in his third year, and is bringing in arguably the best recruiting class in LSU history along with a fourth consectutive bowl win this year.

B+?

Soooo... You think he should have fired Pelini in mid 07 and gone with Maleveto???

At the beginning of last season, Les was explaining his hire and said he consulted with Pelini. Bo thought he should stay within the system. LM is an offensive guy who relies heavily on his DC to manage the defense. Why would he ignore this advice? I'm not saying this excuses his decision, but hopefully he's learned from it. His overall job at LSU has earned an A- at least.

B- but only because last year took him down a bit. A- for the first 3 years. That's only based on wins/losses and recruiting, however. (which admittedly is a huge part of the job). If you grade him on other intangibles like fan and media friendly, and gameday coaching and player decisions, his grade goes down somewhat.

05 SEC West Division Title, 05 Peach Bowl Win, Finished #5 Nationally
06 BCS Sugar Bowl Win, Finished #3 Nationally
07 SEC Championship, BCS National Championship, Finished #1 Nationally
08 Chick Fil A Bowl Win

Top Recruiting class this year makes our future look bright.

This, while consistently being in the top five of recruiting, makes me give him and A. That is a lot of accomplishmments in 4 seasons.
