* GOPHER protocol, developed in 1991 at the University of Minnesota, was a very commonly used protocol on the Internet until about 1994. In fact, there were still some computer terminals at the Frey Computing Services Center at LSU that used the GOPHER protocol into the late 90's.
* Gopher wood, of unclear meaning, is mentioned in the Bible as the building material for Noah's ark.
* A "gopher ball" is one of many nicknames for a home run in baseball.

Why are some people so stupid to start a thread like this on here? You know you're gonna get hammered. I'm grew up in Minnesota and I feel like giving you shite, but you'll find out the hard way how baseball is played when you can actually play it year-round without one of your balls freezing off.
