With the athletes we have now, it might actually work.

Yes, he was one of the best. He also had a knack for always finding himself away from the ball.

I wonder if TM7 would have actually made that scheme work...

A modern run stopping safety is basically what Tepper called a Drop linebacker.

Funny side story for the kids on here - at Nick Saban's very first press conference when he became the coach at LSU, someone in the media asked him if he intended to use a droplinebacker in his scheme, to which Saban replied, "what's a droplinebacker?" It was at that exact moment that I knew LSU's worst days were over.

I laughed. Ah, the days of "bring back the magic" and Jerry DiNardo who was umm somehow lured away from Vanderbilt (imagine that). Whomever was Lou Tepper's sport's agent could have taught Goebbels a trick or two...mad respect for that guy.

Tepper was the DC my junior and senior years at LSU. Those were some of the worst defenses I've ever seen.

We'd routinely have opposing WRs streaking down the field without a defender within 20 yds of them

I knew him personally on campus. really good guy, when talking to him about football he seemed lost. not his fault, the coaching completely inept. I remember one conversation (we usually didn't talk football, we were classmates) was "who is the hardest guy you ever had to cover?"

answer, "I usually dont know who to cover, but there is a space I can't let guys catch a ball"

he will be the butt of many jokes because of lou tepoer.

Lol. That idiot actually wrote a book telling others how he uses his linebackers so they could use it to coach against him. "The drop likebacker" lol. Thomas dunson sucked fricking arse. Still amazes me to this day how he ever got a scholarship to play football at LSU. He was horrible.

Didn’t he have LB Jamal Hill covering Champ Bailey on a play or two?

I remember Quincy Carter saying after the Georgia game “we just took what they gave us.” What were they giving? “Everything.”

Ol’ Tepper made Quincy rich as Carter’s inflated reputation started with that game.
