That is a huge part of baseball. That is why a catcher is important. Coaches look at blocking and recieving before even pop times

There were many calls that went TX way because the catcher would hold it on the corner for a second. Go back and watch the game, it was painfully obvious. Gibbs just assumed he knew what call was coming.

False, every catcher frames the ball!

Now that surprises me. I didn't know that. You can teach those things but you can't teach having a cannon for an arm- quicker releases from improved technique, yes but not the arm strength.

Btw, I know what "pop" time is but what does it stand for?

Does anyone else feel like we weren't getting the strikes called last night because of Gibbs lack of framing? Rupp was doing a great job framing every pitch, and holding it out there for a second or two and getting the call. Gibbs was trying to get the ball back to our pitchers ASAP. Thoughts?

I think Gibbs is one of the best, BUT I also noticed this!

Wen watching tennis, I know how they have that camera eye, that can tell if a ball is out or in.

Wouldn't it be cool of they could just build a 3-D holograph of the strike zone

That everyone would know if a pitch was a ball or strike and there would be some uniformity, not only during a game, but during a season, across leagues, etc.

The corporeal umpire could remain there, but I think this kind of thing would improve the game

They do have that in MLB games. On television anyway.

True, if you hold it too long.

Oh. I get what you are saying. Well that's a catcher being an obvious dick and an ump probably would get pissed, but that's not what Gibbs does.

Not sure? just always called that. I think its considered pop of mitt to pop of glove at second. Thats just the language used. Thats a guess.

I have a relative who catches for the Dodgers- recently got moved to Albuquerque- but I just sent him a text. Hopefully he'll get back. I've often wondered but never thought of asking.

Okay, he said it's just the "sound" from hitting mitt to IFer's glove- that's how it originated.

he should make a quick call. Sorry but yall don't know what you are talking about. Maybe some arrogant little league ump but thats about it.

I've seen major league umps get pissed for a catcher leaving the glove framed too long. They take it as showing up the ump. It's true.

Anyway framing wasn't the problem last night.

In both of these games, edge calls ahve been very inconsistent and Texas is swining and missing at too many pitches. For the most part, anything over the plate, Texas is hitting foul or fair.

what texas has done is jump all over our starting pitcher and hope that's enough to win it. They had no problem figuring them out right away and got 6 off coleman, 3 off ross and another 2 in the inning he left. They haven't scored in either game after they got to our bullpen.

If ranaudo can hold them off in the beginning, I like our chances a lot more.
