Does anyone else feel like we weren't getting the strikes called last night because of Gibbs lack of framing? Rupp was doing a great job framing every pitch, and holding it out there for a second or two and getting the call. Gibbs was trying to get the ball back to our pitchers ASAP. Thoughts?

Rupp was catching a better pitcher.

When your pitcher starts the game with 4 balls your not going to get the close calls alot. Just a fact of the game.

In college baseball the umpires are suppose to be good enough to call balls and strikes without "framing pitches". Most umpires take framing as showing them up.

Gibbs is one of the best defensive catchers in America. That being said, I didnt notice a problem with how he was framing

You can only "frame" pitches around the strike zone not ones that are clearly off the plate.

No sense in framing if a) you can't come near the plate or b) breaking pitches are being thrown.

No, you don't. There's a MLB umpire who likes to ring 'em up as they're walking down the line thinking they drew a ball four.

Some umps are not "quick" and they tell you not to be too "quick" in making any calls.

Awesome, nothing to do with framing a pitch.

A catcher should move his glove until the ump makes a call or its painfully obvious.

Sure, it goes back to you saying they should make a quick call.

Gibbs is an excellent player but the last 2 games he's done an awful job of framing pitches. He even dropped one that was a strike last night. Texas has gotten the foot outside call all series and we haven't partially due to gibbs' frame work.

yea but when the guys run down the line they are just trying to get the ump to give them the ump when they know it was close.

Exactly and if umpires made "quick" calls it would be a useless tactic. You just negated your argument.
