Sugar Bowl was a huge accomplishment at one point. Playoffs have ruined that
How did the playoffs ruin the Sugar Bowl? I mean if you say it is irrelevant unless it is a semi final game then wouldn't the BCS have ruined it unless it was the championship game?
Same thing with players sitting out bowl games. If a bowl is meaningless because it is not a playoff game, then under the BCS wasn't every bowl expect the championship game irrelevant?
In the playoff era there are, according to y'alls logic, two meaningful bowls. Under the BCS there was only one.

The loss to Troy was much more eye opening than the Georgia win.
I'm getting so sick of this shite.
It was Orgeron's first month of his first season as HC at LSU. Were your eyes opened when LSU lost to UAB in Saban's first month of his first season at LSU? Were your eyes opened when Alabama lost to ULM in Saban's first month of his first season at Alabama?
This isn't about if Orgeron is as good as Saban, but if you don't hold it against a great coach as Saban, how can you hold it against a (probably) lesser coach in Orgeron?

The point is that, with the BCS, expectations were different. Everyone knew that only 2 teams could make it and that you pretty much had to go undefeated to have a guaranteed shot.
Now that the playoffs have expanded the field to 4 teams, it's that much more of a letdown when your team doesn't make it.
Think about when LSU played in the Sugar Bowl in 2001. That was a HUGE deal for the team and the fanbase. Going into the SECCG, they knew they had no shot at the BCSCG, but they laid it all on the line regardless against UT. And then, because it was such an honor to play in the Sugar Bowl, I don't remember Josh Reed or Ryan Clark skipping it to focus on the NFL draft. That would've been unthinkable.
But now, if LSU misses the playoff and plays in the Sugar Bowl, it's more like "meh."
Yes, all the other bowls were still exhibition games in the BCS era, but they were much more respected exhibition games that teams took a lot of pride in playing in.

frick yea! I was rightfully pissed. The only difference was that LSU was nowhere near the powerhouse program (recruiting, facilities, budget, etc.) in 2000 as it is now.

You mean, "then".
While I was also pissed at the time, I'm not still holding it against the guy. I've let it go, that's all I'm asking from others, let it go. Orgeron's gone 16-5 (76% win) since his first month, without losing to a team who didn't finish the season ranked.

you are forgetting and trying to use intelligence w people who just want to crap on the coach and the program.
if we went 12-1, got into the playoffs, won the NC,
these people would bitch about the one loss.
