Jones will be at LSU. 100%.
He'll play 2B/3B/LF.

The Astros have already offered him over 1 million.
"Jones declined to say exactly how much they were asking for, but said it was, “way above seven figures.” The Astros countered with an offer that was a little over $1 million."
Jones Wants a shite Ton of Money

We'll see if the commissioners office even allows this to progress any further. Jones minimum price is roughly 1.5-1.8 million and if he were to sign for anything less that would be a slap in the face to himself
Doesn't sound like they met that first offer...

Reportedly, the Astros were prepared to select Jones with the eighth pick of the draft on Monday, but only if they could reach an agreement on a signing bonus.

Is he not more of a need at 3B than LF?

Do you think we get Lee on campus too?

Gausman might be gone too if he gets his money?

Sorry if it has been posted....here is a quote from Houston's scouting director Bobby Heck:
Basically..."the guy dropped that far and was easily the best player available so we just said to hell with it maybe he'll change his mind, not get into school, or hit some sort of financial crisis and we'll get lucky."

If he changed his demands or his commitment to LSU, I thought it would be wise for us to have a chance to talk to him about it

So, in other words they're likely dumping that pick for the deeper draft next year?
Posted on 6/9/10 at 8:46 pm to deuce985
The Astros was going draft him 8th overall for $1.5 mil. He said it was going to take more than that to get him away from LSU.
Posted on 6/9/10 at 8:53 pm to deuce985
No, you aren't compensated for those picks. But they probably had him rated so much higher than anyone else available at that point they were willing to take the risk of not getting him.

On the recruiting board the Hopkins and Southall links are to the Cechinni video.
Edit: Thanks

I really do and I'll tell you why...
1)The Dodgers and Lee had no negotations before him being picked.
2)The Dodgers have never offered a first rounder over 2.3 million EVER!
3)The Dodgers are in a money crisis at the moment.
4)The Dodgers (going back to #3) chose the guy with the most signability concerns in the entire draft as their first pick. Coincidence? I don't think sooooo...
5)The Dodgers would get two first round picks in 2011, what is considered a deeper draft and a chance to recover this chaos in the orgainzation and spend heavily.

I mean I would if I got money
(Insert players name) gets great money he will leave.
The Dodgers selected Gausman, again the team with financial issues. The slot for a 6th rounder is roughly roughly 100,000-400,000, but we know what happened last year.
With that being said, if Gausman signs for anything under 1 million I would be dissapointed not only for LSU but for himself.
Posted on 6/9/10 at 9:12 pm to Adam4848
I think I read somewhere that the slot for anything over round 5 is a max of 150k.

MLB over the past couple of years has "stated" they are trying to cut down on what you are talking about. Last year was a utter failure to say the least...
I'm hoping the commissioners office strongly frowns upon teams even attempting things like that this year.

The only thing that scares me with Jones is that Boras is his adviser. Meaning he may just convince the Astros to pony up anywhere from 1.8 to 2.0 million and sign him. That's what it will take because he has a FULL scholly to LSU. That never happens so it's going to take way over slot money to sign him.
But if the Astros weren't willing to pay that much at number 8 I wonder if they'd pay that much and risk the ire of the commish.
