It appears that St. Amant High School basketball coach, Gary Duhe, will interview tomorrow for an assistant coach's position with Johnny Jones.
It appears Johnny Jones is making some good decisions

The man won state championships with three different schools. I imagine under different circumstances he'd be TD approved for x's and o's as well as campaigning for local talent.
It's not a done deal though. I heard Dean Smith's zombie will be the next compliance administrator..

This would be a huge recruiting advantage. Gary Duhe is a well respected coach around the state. Screw it let the bbq buddies put their dream team together. If they win great and if they lose we aren't in any worse shape.

Is this Duhe related to AJ Duhe of football fame?

I refereed high school bb for 13 years and called many of his games. He is a great X's and O's coach. I saw him win a lot games he had no business winning because he simply out coached his counterpart. I have no clue how he would do at LSU.

If he's such a "great" coach, why has he been coaching high school ball for the last 30 years?
I was looking for something like this to show up and it did.
DUMB ARGUMENT !
..not to mention he would likely have to have started coaching while in middle school.

at last, a true statement on all counts

Message Posted by kingbob He's a great coach. He was able to take teams of short white guys deep in the LA playoffs multiple times.
So he's the white guy that will deliver the short white guys this team has been missing out on?

A Duhe from the River Parishes - inconceivable.

As one of his former players, he can flat out coach. Made playoffs at something like 5 different schools for 20 plus years.
Would love to see him get a shot!

His teams have always been very disciplined on and off the court.

I sat by Duhe at a high school basketball playoff game when I was in college, and we talked basketball during the whole game. The man knows his stuff. It was one of my favorite conversations about sports ever. He definitely passes my smell test, brother.

Uhhhhhh......little bit of a difference between the college and high school game. If he's such a "great" coach, why has he been coaching high school ball for the last 30 years?
He coached under Dale Brown for several years. I actually played for him for 4 years at Trafton (Dunham School now). He is an excellent coach and motivator. His motivation back then was on the negative side but he got the most out of his players. Very organized and VERY connected in the Louisiana and LSU basketball community. He would be a great hire. As an example we won the 2A state title with a team full of 6 foot white dudes.
BTW he also coached Derrik Taylor and Hi C Carter at Redemtorist.

Should hire Kenny Almond

The new/old LSU coaching staff will be a blast from the past.
Johnny's SEC record in his last 4 seasons as Dale Brown's top assistant...18-46

wow. what the frick does this have to do with how he'll be as a head coach 15 years later?

Some people choose not to be happy and they resent those of us who choose the opposite. Geaux Tigers!
Posted on 4/15/12 at 8:29 am to M Le Rip
I mean I'm not thrilled with the hire quite yet but that statement was just completely irrelevant.

15 years ago Johnny was not a kid, he was in his mid 30's...I thought he was supposed to be a great recruiter. Did he give up along with Dale Brown his last 4 seasons at LSU?
Posted on 4/15/12 at 8:35 am to Skillet
I had a better response than this typed up but I hit the back button like 4 times on accident and I'm not typing it again
In short, I just don't think what he did as an assistant 15 years ago under a washed up Brown has much bearing on how he'll perform as HC. I understand its not a popular hire, hell I'm not thrilled by it, but let's give the guy a chance. He's an alum at his dream job now. I don't think it'll get much worse than 12 SEC wins in 3 years

I hear what you're saying, and as negative as I am towards the hire, I would gladly eat crow for Johnny to prove me wrong...Like you said before, It's all about recruiting..If he can recruit, he should do well.
