Since the beginning of the SEC Championship Game in 1992, EVERY team that has won the SEC Championship game had a coach that won AT LEAST 9 games during their second full season as coach at that school.

26 years is a pretty damn decent sample size for such a statistic

That's going to be really hard for Tennessee, that's a dumpster fire like I have not seen before in a that good of a school.

With so many people saying that 8-4 would be a remarkable year this year , it would appear it will be a while til LSU wins the SEC west , or O is the combo breaker.

9 wins is mediocre, yet now that number possibly leads to a future champion?

This place is bi-polar

well he's wrong

Malzahn won the SEC his first year on the job then only won 8 games in his second year at Auburn.

An addition, since 2000, no coach has won the SEC unless they had at least won their division by their second season at that school.

Certain people can talk about needing time blah blah blah, but history is totally against them.

It doesn’t take three or four years to build a contender and honestly never has.

If a new coach can’t get a program on track quickly, the odds are extremely high he never will.

Going 12-1 and winning the SEC in his first year kind of erases that second year judgement window.

Had O won the SEC last year (or in 2016, his first first year ), no one would complain if he followed it up with an 8-4 reloading year.

The point is, generally coaches succeed early or they don’t succeed at all.

This is a critical year for O, and anyone trying to pretend it isn’t is disregarding history and facts to do so.

Besides The Malzahn example, what other SEC coach won 9 games (6-2 in conf) their first year on the job? I guess it depends on what you define as successful. In the grand scheme of things, that's probably one of the better years for a first year coach across CFB.

100% agree. I don't think LSU needs to win the SEC but there are some huge games that need to be won. Getting rolled over and saying they are building up to something isn't going to cut it.

Miami
Auburn
Florida
Georgia
Alabama
TAMU

We HAVE to win at least half of those games.

We will know a lot by end of Florida game.

Kinda where I’m at.

Split Miami Auburn
Split Florida TAMU
Split UGA Bama

Win the rest

O will not work out, just accept that LSU fans will never trust his being LSU FB HC!!!

When Joe Alleva created this problem, he had to own this train wreck.

We will have a flush soon, O...Jeaux....F’King!!

Les Miles went 10-1 (7-1).

Most certainly it does depend on what you define as successful.

Given the state of the SEC last year, I don’t find five wins over teams that fired their coaches all that impressive.

Add in an OOC loss to a Sun Belt team and factor in that only one win came against a team with a winning conference record and one loss was a 30 point ambush by a team that went 4-4 in conference and I’d say the season was far from a success

Agreed. I have been completely against anyone claiming we need to win the West. Alabama has changed the landscape there.

But 10-2 with a NY6 Bowl is absolutely a reasonable goal and standard that this team should be judged by.

Anything less than that is just plain more of the same and we are simply running in place with the rest of the West and Florida quickly catching up.

Fixed.

How you can put a split with Florida and TAM on the same level as those other two is beyond me.

The only reason anyone should think Florida or TAM is an understandable loss this year is if you are conceding that their coaching is better. It really is that simple.

Florida was 4-7 last year and has an absolute train wreck at the QB position.

TAM hasn’t beaten LSU since the 90s and not once since joining the conference. They are a tissue soft defensive team and will be again this year.

But both of those schools will be much better in Year 2 under those coaches so if O can’t get this team prepared and come out with a win this year with a year and a half head start things are not looking good at all for the future in those matchups.
