FSU AD schedules to an advantage.

Getting this out of the way first: Yes, you have to play the schedule you were given.
But,
Florida State will play a tune up game and iron out the mistakes this week. It also means that they will get two weeks off during the season. Obviously the SEC has only allowed one team to do that this year and it was Vanderbilt.
If the SEC would allow it, we should have taken the opportunity to schedule New Mexico (or any of the fcs schools) a week before FSU like they did.
It goes beyond that too.
We did this before Virginia Tech in 07 and it is the reason we played for the national championship (besides being good we needed luck with a 2 loss team). But we played MSU on a Thursday before. That gave us 9 days rest before Tech. It was smart scheduling.
FSU is doing the same thing. They play Duquesne.
Then play us on a Sunday with 8 days rest....not 7 (Smart)
Then they have a week off. But play Louisville on a Friday. That Gives them 12 or 13 days off. (Smart)
Then they have an extra days rest over Boston College.
Again, you play the schedule you are given…..but an AD can put his team in a better position with smart scheduling like FSU did. And another advantage is he gave his team two weeks off.
So think about this. Scheduling like FSU doesn't just help in one week.... helps them over 4 weeks

It bothers me that we can’t do this more often.
Bothers me more that we are playing the team that has this advantage figured out.
From now on, Woodward will be placing in the contract with these kickoff games that we cannot play you if you have a game the week before our first game of the season.
And yes, if we lose, I am going to make this same thread again.

I don't if Woodward is actually doing this.
But having a season kickoff game after a weekend of games has already been played is stupid.

Seems ridiculous that Vandy gets two bye weeks in the middle of the schedule while everyone else only gets one.

While it’s true, you’re not factoring-in that we get to see their offensive alignment and personnel.
The reason we lost to MSU 2020 conference-only year, was: it was a new coach, Leach, with tons of transfer players. If we could have watched them just once, everything could have been different. Of course the SEC office knew whoever played MSU first that year was at a disadvantage, frick them.

It also would give you a week off before auburn. That woudlve been smart.

you don't have to show any cards vs Duquesne.
.....duquesne.....there is a reason they didn't schedule Notre Dame the week before us.

Why do you think we could schedule a week 0 opponent, just because we want to? Do you understand the rules of scheduling a week 0 game?

OP thinks he’s breaking news here. It’s only been discussed a million times…

Honestly, the moment FSU scheduled that game, LSU should have been on the phone with Southern to reschedule.

I get that FSU might get some advantage out of playing a real game for 3 hrs, but....you could argue that LSU practices are way more challenging, and the players will get more out of playing against our own talent vs Duq.
LSU could run today's practice more like a game scenario then most scrimmages, but at the same time, I do feel that FSU runs more chance of getting someone hurt. That, they definitely can't afford, especially across the OL.

I know y’all think we are going to slice right through fsu next week.
But lsu practice vs playing a tuneup southern or New Mexico is night and day.
For the guy that said, you cannot just go schedule a week zero game, you also need to be aware when a team does it before you.
Also contracts need to specify that your opponent cannot take a tune up before your kickoff game.
It’s totally fair to do. ITs smart. But alleva or woodword needs to be ready for this.

And that reason is because notre dame isn’t playing Hawaii this year

We can’t play southern in week 0, that’s not how this works
