Miles statements regarding the use of Russell Sheppard next year are as perplexing and discouraging as what was done with him this year.
Wouldn't allowing the quarterbacks to compete be good for all of them, as well as giving vital reps to a potential back up? Miles' statement that the plan is to use Sheppard as "sort of a Percy Harvin' sounds suspiciously like no plan at all. I hope for the young man's sake that I'm wrong. Pretty sure he was sold on LSU as a quarterback not as a "sort of."

Umm, that sounds like a pretty damn good description to me.

If RS will never seriously be groomed to be QB then why are we not recruiting any bigtime QB's? Seems like a big mistake putting all of your eggs in so few baskets.

This isn't exactly the first time Miles has winged it.

how do you know he was told he would play QB? He may have been told he would be able to compete for QB but may be used in the Harvin type role.

Les Miles promised him the OPPORTUNITY to play quarterback any maybe that won't work out. The next best possible role is the Percy Harvin role especially with BG on board now.

RS needs the ball in his hands and let him run with the ball

Everything we have seen and heard from Spring ball is that he doesn't have the arm strength.

I would like to see him get a chance, but Miles isn't starting a project that would cost him his job..

safer bet is to start JJ at QB and keep RS on the field somewhere, somehow..

Can't wait until next season

I hope that Gonzales can help Les put Shep in a position to succeed. We will see.

I'll keep posting until everyone reads it I guess. The move if you will, or lack of QB reps-whatever, was TOTALLY Shep's decision. QB in the SEC is not what he thought it was. He knows his highest and best use is as stated above. You will not see him play QB short of gimmick plays and/or major injuries to other players.

We have recruited bigtime QBs both this year and last year, both of which are/were highly regarded.

We got Chris Garrett last year, who by all acounts is very solid fundementally.

This year, we got Zach Lee, who appears to be the consumate spread QB. Some recruiting guru's are extremely high on his potential, as he is a big QB who can make all the throws and has a cannon arm.

This time next year, we will probably have another QB committed who is also good. Simply put, we have recruited a number of QBs over the years are "bigtim" and who have unlimited potential (doesnt mean they will be great though with our QB coaching)

He wasted his time practicing at QB. That cost him this year. It's the right choice.

doesnt mean they will be great though with our QB coaching

Matt Flynn turned out OK. Since Flynn, and the unpredicted departure of Perriloux, the problem has been that LSU had no experienced QB on the team, and it cost them.

You are saying the same thing Miles's is saying.

I went back and checked out Shep's High School videos. It seems like he runs it better when it's not a designed run play. Hopefully Miles can let this kid drop back figure something out. Although he may not have the best arm, he has great vision. And while on the subject of strong arms, Miles did start Andrew Hatch.....I don't necessarily remember him having a "cannon".

Miles has stated that it was Shep's decision? I guess I either forgot he did, or haven't read the quote.
