Didn't know this. Just so happened to go onto the Fender homepage to look up some info about their guitar lineup and I saw this feature article.

quote:

Barksdale started playing guitar a few years ago as a member of the Los Angeles (then St. Louis) Rams. After his 2013 season, Barksdale saw footage of the great Jimi Hendrix playing live. His coach at the time, Jeff Fisher, suggested he try taking up the gutiar.

While Barksdale played saxophone as a pre-teen in Detroit, he hadn't thought of diving into music until Fisher's motivation collided with that viewing of Hendrix' electric Monterey Pop Festival performance.

Linking up with several instructors along the way, Barksdale is now comfortable channeling his rock idol on stage with his own slick licks.

He has some tracks that you can sample on his official website below

He isn't the greatest vocalist but otherwise the sound is pretty decent if you're into that type of music. One of the songs is a rendition of Electric Feel originally by the MGMT

There’s a big backstory to that. He suffers from depression and has attempted suicide. He picked up music as a healing mechanism.

Damn didn't know that

That might be why Jeff Fisher made the recommendation? Seems like it would be pretty random otherwise.

Playing music can be therapeutic

There was a thread a while back from an interview he gave where he talked about all of this.

Simon would toss him off stage for his singing.

Awesome he made the album for his own steps in life. The singing sounds horrible, even drowns out sometimes.

He gets a real singer and just plays guitar and he may just have himself a second career after football.
