Mawae can walk into a living room and explain to recruits that he can help them achieve their goal to succeed at the highest level because he was done it and has the gold jacket and bust in Canton to prove it.
Being a HOF doesn’t mean you will be a successful coach.

How many GREAT players can you name that became great coaches? in ANY sport? There are Maybe 3 that I can think of with an argument...Ditka (he caught the so called lightning in a bottle), Bill Russell ( he was lucky enough to have himself as a player and Mike Singletary. I can't recall any others.
My theory is great players don't become great coaches. They just can't understand why others can't do what they found so easy. Now a player that MADE himself great through hard work very well may become a greatcoach.

I’d look heavily at Rob Sale. A former LSU and Neville player who is actually coaching OL in the college ranks and has strong ties to Louisiana high school football.

Across all sports, I can only think of Ditka and Phil Jackson. Some of the greatest athletes ever just don’t have the ability to transition into teaching the techniques and coaching. It’s not a knock on them, but if it were so easy every college team would have at least 2-3 HOFs on staff. LSU is not in a position to test out a guy who hasn’t coached at the highest levels for longer than one season because of his playing accolades.

Highly doubt a guy that just uprooted his family to New Jersey a few months ago would even pick up the phone for his alma mater that denied him this opportunity multiple times prior.

I’m all about Wilkerson! Mawae would be the absolute biggest name but I think Wilkerson could be as good or better. Also look out for John DeCoster. He took an assist OL job with the Browns this year but he was very well liked by the players when they hired him to coach TE in 2019. I think we need a big name with skins on the wall that will be able to relate with recruits.
