We lost players....not necessarily talent. Some of the players coming in can be just as good if not better than the players they are replacing.

Yep, thats the hope every year. Still LSU lost a lot of talent. Had a lot of people at the combine and will have quite a few drafted. Just depends on how quickly the new people grasp the schemes

UNC- W - 31-28
Vandy- W- 23-21
Miss. St. W- 28-17
West. Va.- W 31-27
Tennessee- W 24-10
Florida- L 38-12
McNeese St.- W 42-6
Sons of satan - L 31-20
Team to the east- L 35-14
UL Monroe- W 31-17
Ole Piss- W 21-17
Arkansas- L 34-27

Defense will be talented, but too young. Offense will be inept. I see an 8-4 season. If we win more than 9 games, it will be Miles' best coaching job since he got here. We are one year away

the thing that i like is alabama has to play florida this year, so we're not starting behind the 8 ball like every other year.

Having to play (and losing to) Florida while other contenders did not has only cost us the SEC West title on two occasions: 1996 and 2006. In 1996, we lost to Florida and finished tied with Alabama, but lost the head to head tiebreaker. In 2006, we lost to Florida and finished a game behind Arkansas, but would have won the head to head tiebreaker.

In neither 2008 nor 2009 would our not playing Florida, Alabama's playing Florida, or even BOTH happening, have made any difference in the SEC West division title race. In each of those years, you could have turned any one of our losses into a win and any one of Alabama's wins into a loss, and they still would have finished ahead of us. There is no reason to think that it will suddenly make a difference this year.

the west is ours

Oh, really?

auburn is still very young

And with 13 new starters, plus the eternally young Jordan Jefferson, what are we?

arkansas scares me

As well they should.

look for miss st to scare.

I don't necessarily agree, but fair enough.

So, there are at least two teams in the West that "scare" you, and that's not even including Alabama, which, you must realize, can only lose to Florida once in the regular season, yet you think "the west is ours"? Doesn't make much sense.

Well, you were right on one out of those four: Arkansas. They were not seriously threatened by the other three.

You can only get so much out of players.

Yep. Some are able to get more than others, apparently. Since they get to decide, for the most part, which players they will have, you'd think they'd get ones that would perform well.

in the end they have to go out there and execute.

Yep. Someone should teach them how to execute, or realize they can't execute, BEFORE using a scholarship on them. With 85 scholarships available, you'd think they could find 22 who would be able to execute. Maybe we should start by giving a scholarship to someone who can execute a time out when the clock is running out and we're behind.

Then why weren't they starting ahead of them? If the 112th ranked offense in the country was keeping its better players on the bench last year, then someone should be fired.

The two teams might struggle to score 31 points combined, let alone one of them by itself.

Well, some would say that using good playcalling and a good scheme to make sure your offense isn't "inept" is part of coaching. If we are inept on offense, it's an indictment of our coaches, not an excuse for them.

Then how in the hell did we get four years away after the 2007 NC game? We were already there.

So, we lose four games and Alabama isn't one of them? Now, that would be a strange year.

And all of that is still a problem. In fact, much of it will likely be a bigger problem this year than it was last year. The running game has to replace practically its entire OL and most of its RBs
Yes we are replacing some players on the OL. This is college football...everyone replaces players. We have recruited to do it. Many of our replacements on the OL will be bigger, more talented players and RB is the position that young players make an impact all the time. We will have a couple of young talented guys that should get that chance.
quote:

The defense lost a lot and is smaller and thinner this year.
Too much has been made of what the ESPN talking heads said about our light DL. That is total BS. We have some bigs at DT that will be in the mix in Nevis, Davenport and Copeland (all 290+)as well as pleanty of depth in Brockers, Livingston and Downs who will have the next 5 months to add some quality weight. In addition, we should have a good mix of run stoppers and speed off the edge with the 8 scolly DE's we will have in fall camp. Aghayere, Edwards, Logan and Ferguson will be our bigger run stoppers with Montgomery and Mingo adding speed on obvious passing situations. Allen and Adams will also be in the mix. All of these guys are very talented and were highly recruited and it's time for some of them to step up... I think they will.
quote:

The QB is still average
That may be but QB's usually get better as they mature. We have enough talent around any QB to have a good offense. Again, I choose to believe the light will come on for one of them and the offense will find an identity this season.

Up until a few days ago I would have said 9-3, with Bama winning the West. However, a good friend just scheduled his wedding for the day of the SECCG, so therefore I have no doubt LSU will be in Atlanta and I will have to miss the trip for the 5th time and counting

But we didn't last year? Why in the hell did we not have all that talent last year, you know, in the fifth year of the tenure of a coach whose unquestioned biggest strength is his recruiting?

This is college football...everyone replaces players. We have recruited to do it.

Oh? Seems that replacing just one player who wasn't even a starter, Ryan Perrilloux, has been a two-year (and counting) project that turned a national champion into a .500 SEC team. But now we're going to replace practically a whole offensive line, among the total of 13 starters we have to replace, all in one off-season because "we have recruited to do it"? I'll believe it when I see it.

They COULD sprout wings and fly, but there's no reason to think they will. Look, if it was even debatable whether they were as good as the guys who put up #112 last year, then I can't believe they could improve enough in one off season to actually be good.

I don't know how much good it'll do you, though. Even if you don't read it here and now, you'll still just be reading the same information everywhere else in the fall.

Dreadful QB play-worse than 2009-will squander a potentially excellent D resulting in a 6-6 finish that will be much worse than it appears. LM departs into the football sunset. Otherwise, it should be a good season...
