A what now?
A "Yat" is a person from New Orleans, generally blue-collar, and probably from the Irish Channel area.
It comes from their common greeting of: "Hey! Where y'at?" Translated literally means, "Hey, where are you at?"
You're getting good advice here, open containers are fine as long as they're not glass, wear your school colors - as long as they aren't orange and blue, with an LSU hat. Wander around campus, ask "what smells so good?" and you'll be invited to take a sample. Offer them a beer, and you're likely to get a Jack and Coke with your sample of food.
Downtown BR is starting to get lively, but if you're young and looking for a 24/7 party scene, go down to New Orleans/French Quarter. CAUTION: The police in New Orleans are NOT friendly, it is best to avoid them at all costs.

Isn't Sean Payton from Naperville...? Going to the Saints game by any chance...?

there are a lot of locals wearing Cubs' hats down here.
A lot of Ryan Theriot fans? He was a fan favorite up here...and one of my wife's, but for more than his play I think...
Yeah...I guess Payton is from Naperville...I forgot about that...actually drive by the high school he went to every time I take the kids to daycare.
Thanks again for all the feedback...really getting jacked for the experience. Weather looks like it will be great last I checked.

arriving around 11:30 am, and are headed back on another bus after the game.
You'll miss that bus. If you don't, bring extra beer, soda, or water with you on the bus. Cause it will take you close to 2hrs to get back to NOLA.
Pace yourself. LSU gameday rookies that start at 11:30am usually go down by halftime.
You picked a great game to come. There's one game every year where TS actually lives up to the hype. This will be it. That place is going to be rockin.

There will be people tailgating nearly all over campus, people are everywhere.
Some good places to eat near campus are The Chimes, Walk Ons, Louie's, Roul's, and Fat Cow.
Be sure to catch the players and the band marching down the hill before the game.
Check out Mike's Habitat as well.
If you want to buy souvenirs check out the bookstore or the SportShop near Mike's Habitat. Bengals and Bandits in Northgate has some great stuff as well.
Get to your seat early enough so you don't miss pregame.
Avoid tiger land if you're above college age.

Greeks (and others) on the Parade Grounds. RV's south of the stadium. And a whole lot of just regular ole Tigers from Dalrymple to Highland to South Stadium to River Road on west side of stadium. Heaviest focus areas tend to be down Dalrympe, down South Stadium, and 360 deg around the Stadium.
There will likely be 150-200k tailgating at this game. Bama game last year was the biggest one I have seen and this one is a bigger game with LSU squarely in the drivers seat for its own destiny.

Go in to stadium at least 30 min before KO and get settled. Pregame sets the tone for whats to come and it starts 15:00 before KO.
Mike might actually make an appearance on the field again this week...

Take lots of pictures and tell us about your experiences. Also, as others have noted, wear college apparel from your nearest school. It'll go a long way in establishing you as a guest.
Now, if we were playing a non-traditional, distant weaker opponent (think Idaho, Indiana, Maryland, etc.) you could wear gear from that school and be treated like royalty. But not a rival conference opponent like Florida. They're not going to roll the red carpet out for you if you rock anything blue and orange.
Have fun and enjoy your time!

[/img] Glad you are coming to visit! Open containers are the norm and wear whatever you want as long that is not blue and orange. Having been to many different stadiums around the country I have always wanted someone to do this for me so here you go.
Light green * is where I suspect your buss will be unloaded/picked up. I started your journey from there. The dark green line is the route I would suggest on the way to the game. The purple line is where the team and band come down "victory hill."
1- is the Football Operations Building. Its worth looking at since you will be passing it on your way to tailgate.
2s- Are primarily RV lots. Great time worth going to check out and mingle around.
3- Is Mike's habitat is a must see LSU attraction, there will be a lot of activity around the habitat (LSU's official tailgate, music, food etc.).
4- Is the Indian Mounds- Lots of great tailgates around this area, I would definitely make some new friends around here.
5- Is the quad. It is beautiful and always amazes me how peaceful it is when there is crazy all around it.
6- is the Parade Grounds, Heavy Greek scene with other tailgates as well. It is where they host Gameday (Most of the time and recently) when they come to LSU.
7- Is the union. They have food there (not that you'll need it). Most importantly indoor plumbing.
8- Is the location of Chimes.
9- Is the location of Barcadia. Good time on game day.
10- Is the location of Louie's
11- Is the location of the book store if you need some LSU gear. There is also a LSU shop by Chimes.
I forgot to show the Greek Theatre but it is up the street to the left of the Indian Mounds.
Tiger Stadium is obvious. Have a good time and make some new memories and friends you won't remember.

Recommendations?
Just to sit back and soak it up buddy. You are about to experience what SEC and LSU football is all about. Buckle up, it could be a bumpy ride at times but I guarantee you will wake up Sunday with one big arse grin on your face. Oh and to top it off, you get to watch the best player in college football....your welcome

Yat= where you at? Slang from the New Orleans metro folks. Usually a term for those in the area with an accent.

Dude.
11:30 a.m. is not going to cut it.
More like 11:30 p.m.
The night before.
I think if you can somehow communicate that you are out-of-town pseudo-Tiger fans, you will not need to purchase food or drink your whole time here.
Can't misses:
Mike, the players and coaches, and the Goooooolden Band From Tigerland marching down Victory Hill.
Mike's Habitat
LSU TAF Pregame in Maravich Assembly Center
Tailgating on the Parade Grounds, Greek Ampitheatre, Law Center, Tiger Village RV Lot, Indian Mounds, ANYWHERE! You will see canopies, tents, and tailgates as far as the eye can see and the nose can smell.
The Quadrangle behind Memorial Tower.
LSU Union. LSU French House.
****** ABOVE ALL *********
Be in your seats BEFORE the greatest pregame pageantry in the Milky Way Galaxy commences - as the Golden Band From Tigerland does Hold That Tiger and Pregame Salute.
Eaux.
My.
Gawwwd.
Have fun !!!!!!!!!!!
And again, arrive early.
Very early.
Insanely early.

Print the GAME DAY TIMES OF INTEREST from the LSU website and if you meander down Darymple St. from the Chimes to the stadium you can catch all the tailgating you need and see the band, the team & Mike. Around 30 min. before the band starts their march, the drummers do a drum line in the vicinity of the Greek Theatre that is worth viewing.

Agree with some of the other posters - do not waste your time at Tigerland, regardless of your age. Might be a cool scene there but not necessarily unique - the atmosphere around the stadium is the reason you are coming, explore and enjoy. The Chimes and other restaurants are cool, but again not worth wasting a couple of hours of your brief time here that you could be spending sampling tailgates. Enjoy!!

Fred's
You cant go wrong with Freds on gamedays IMO. The place has awesome specials and gameday steaks
The atmosphere and people on gamedays make it pretty awesome if you aren't setting up a tailgate. I would start there for a few hours and get your drink on then after getting right, go explore the campus and mingle with the tailgates
Trust me you cannot go wrong with this decision.
Actually Mark (owner) said to call him and let him know your jhart from Chicago, etc and he will get you in for free. Call 225-766-3909 and ask for Mark.

I've found that some of the tailgate setups are purposefully close to the walkways because those who set them up intend on sharing their feasts with passer-by's. There was this one guy on stadium drive that was barbequeing an entire pig, I made one small complement to him and he insisted that I get a sample of it, needless to say it was amazing.
Just enjoy yourself and let loose.
