I'm sure most of these are obvious

- Deculus and Shanahan are a liability, especially run blocking

- TDP has poor footwork and average vision at best, slow lateral movement, missed several holes when they were actually there

- Max has a lot to work on. The few times the O-line gave him a pocket, he gave up on it way too quickly. He held the ball a tick too long too many times causing him to miss open WR's. Not very accurate under pressure. Much more accurate when given time to throw. Did not go through his progressions as much as you'd like when he did have time to pass, missed several open receivers.

- WR's didn't help with the drops. I see now why Trey Palmer is just now finding playing time. Not that worried about this unit though. Jack Bech is a leader in waiting.

- Some of the issue above could have been minimized by better play calling, too many long developing plays, these did Max zero favors.

Feel free to add on what you saw. Defense would require a much longer post lol

Sitting in a chair watching the game, you're right about everything.

It's all fixable, but should have been fixed in the off-season.

I think we are screwed at oline all year. We simply don’t have the horses.

Max seems to have developed the drifting problem recently - don’t remember him doing that last year

But we have to run the ball. I don’t care how, and I don’t care with whom. Put TDP at fullback. Bring in Stephen King (6’6 257) to block.

Deculus and Shanahan

No clue how a pair as unathetic as these two ended up being SEC media day/team leader type of guys. They’re both Ed’s version of DJ Welter

Absolute fricking ZERO RPO’s which would have CARVED cover zero.

No rb slip screens (probably because we have no running backs available that know how to run them…thanks Emory)

No outside runs.

UCLA blitzed up the middle so many times and yet we didn’t try a RB flat, a screen, or a counter the entire time.

Deculus is more or less a 4+ year starter, he does well. The problems really showed when Turner came in to play LT, that isn't going to work... unless you want your QB in traction.

He is what he is at this point, unless one of the freshman pick up... what else you got?

Max played best when it was 2, 1, throw the ball or run. When he tried to look to the second level... that wasn't going to work because they were playing over the top.

Boutte played great, the rest meh. Bech looks like someone you want on the field... frick try him at LB.

The 3-7 yard dump play was there all night.

Max played decent and solid, imo.

This. The OL must’ve really sucked against the DL in fall camp.

This. There are so many ways to burn those all out blitzes.

Peetz has never called plays and it shows. Say what you want about E but i have zero doubt he was a huge help to Brady in the booth. Needs to be back up there.

Literally what I took from the game as well. Liam gets destroyed at the point of attack. I don’t know how LSU can overcome him as a liability. Also TDP may work in a gap scheme but he is way too cumbersome to play in a zone blocking scheme. The cutback is non-existent.

The Harvard transfer is a liability? Didn't see that coming.

He kept back peddling even in a moderately clean pocket. Skittish I guess with the constant and immediate pressure in his face. But at one point I noticed whoever was at LT at that time had done a good job at forcing his man out wide but Max back peddled so far he worked himself into pressure from the back side.

I don't want to lay it on Max too badly. Here's a guy in his 3rd start with no run game to help out and immediate pressure in his face on every play. Those aren't great circumstances for a young guy. You're asking him to diagnose where the pressure is coming from pre-snap, know his hot route or audible to one based on reading the coverages and then being able to get the ball out quickly before the line collapses on him.

That's a lot of responsibility even for a veteran QB like Burrow. Max has a lot of room to improve but it'd be nice of the other parts of the offense, particularly the veteran laden o-line would do their jobs and give us the cushion to bring along an inexperienced QB

We can not continue to run the clock down to snap the ball. This is giving the DEs a full step against the O-line

When I rewatched it, left tackle play stood out as being particularly bad, other than in pass blocking and run blocking.

My takeaways

Max is a one-read qb at this point. Stares at his target. If it’s not there he tucks and runs. Takes too many hits at the sideline—just step out

OL is terrible. Nothing to add. Probably the biggest single factor to make this season difficult. We now know why we were told how our DL was unbelievable.

OC is suspect. As UCLA blitzed all night we went to max protection—RB staying back to protect and Taylor staying in to block. Would have preferred RB screens to take some of the pressure off the OL and QB

Linebackers still don’t know how to communicate or cover their assignments

Crossing routes obviously are not covered in practice

KB is a stud

BTJ and Bech are going to be good

Can Trey Palmer play safety?

Major Burns needs a timeout

Yeah Max definitely has stuff he needs to improve on and he has time to, but all these fans melting the last 2 days forget its his third start ever with a busted O line and no run game. Thank God for Boutte being a stud.
