Edward Orgeron... Spurned LSU in his first camp.

Can someone post an old article about this?

Maybe a Larose article back in the day about a local boy going off to LSU? Or a write up or caption in the media guide that year maybe?

Was he actually given a scholarship? Or was he just invited to try out or to walk on type of thing?

Got homesick after a week, then transfers twice as far to Nachitoches? Weren’t there other schools closer that an LSU level recruit could have gone to or couldn’t he have even gone back to Cholly Mac and asked for another shot?

Just never really understood this story.

Benoit Benjamin left to play for his dad, Willis Reed at Creighton.

Benoit Benjamin-7'0 High School Basketball All American that went to CREIGHTON over LSU. The youngsters on this board will not recognize that name, lol. With him, LSU is a Final Four contender.

Interesting story out there about why he took his recruiting trip to LSU when he did. It involved Willis Reed spending some quality time in Benoit’s home town !

I don't think Warrick Dunn spurned LSU. I think he was passed on or not highly sought after by LSU because of his size.

You from Woodlawn?

Joe Ferguson is my answer. Only La HS football player to win all-state by acclimation.

Joe Ferguson was the most sought after player in the nation that year.
But Cholly MAC had no chance of landing a pro style QB, particularly after his tragic misuse of Trey Prather.

Don't know if he was offered by LSU.

He was recruited by Arkansas, mainly. He couldn't play as a freshman at Tech because of his grades. That might be why Daddy Dale stayed away.

He didn't think LSU would use his passing talents so went to BAMA where Bear Bryant promptly made him a triple option QB.

He finished as 1972 SEC Player of the Year
First Team AP All SEC, ahead of Bert Jones
Fifth in Heisman Trophy voting just behind Bert Jones
