The earliest kickoff for an LSU football game in modern-day history was the only option officials had with Tropical Storm Gustav looming out in the Gulf of Mexico.
It was strictly a safety issue, and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is the one who made the final call to move the Appalachian State-LSU game up to 10 a.m. CT from its original start time of 4 p.m. There was also some discussion about postponing the game. That option, however, probably would have meant that the game would have never been played, LSU athletic director Joe Alleva said Friday.
My source tells me it was 100% an ESPN decision because they want to get their people the hell out of there. Neither postponement nor cancellation were ever actually on the table.

Yes, a television company controls an entire state's actions because of televising a football game. It was 100% an ESPN decision.
Are you fricking retarded?

You beat me to it. ESPN does not have that much controls over sports.

next y'all will say that Herbstreit himself changed the game time.

Actually I'm pretty sure it was really Saban behind the scenes pulling the strings. He used Lou Holtz as a diplomat.

Where did I say anything about controlling an entire state's actions? LSU wanted the game at 4 as planned, and ESPN wanted it earlier so they could get out. LSU could have kept the game at 4, but then lost the television coverage. LSU really really wants voters to see this game, so they gave in to the 10 AM start time. No conspiracies. Just business.

ESPN didn't have anything to do with this decision. You might need new sources.
It was pretty much Bobby saying don't play, his advisers and LSU saying we can play, how about this time.

Lou Holtz and his supreme spiting pep talk convinced the State to change game time.

Think its possible that MAYBE Joe Alleva realized he wouldn't be able to reschedule this game and that its more important to voters that we have a 12 game season rather than 11 (not bc he wants voters to see us manhandle a D II team)? OR bc of the massive reimbursements LSU would have to make to season ticket holders for not having a home game? OR bc he's in his first year and wants to put forward a strong stance and show that not having a game isnt an option?
............
No, you're probably right, I bet it was ESPN's decision

More likely scenario: Once he started talkin and slingin saliva everywhere officials were concerned it would contribute to the impending flood waters, so just quickly struck a deal with sylvestor to potentially save lives.

That pretty much seemed to be what you were implying...
BTW...I'm sure we'd all like to hear who/what capacity your "source" was.

I can believe that. Differing accounts are just part of the game in situations like this. I heard what you heard and you heard what you heard - and we both have access to participants of the meeting. I would never expect the true version to come out in a media report, though. I don't even really care what the real story is, just sharing what I heard from a credible source (Sports2, I happen to know that you are maybe one-half of one degree removed from the person I'm talking about at most.)
