If you are talking about the guy that loves Johnny Jones, wrong. As a coach, he was awful. Also, I like Wade.

Preseason rankings don’t mean a damn thing. They severely underrated this team last year and they’ll continue to do so as long as Wade’s the coach.

Wasn't lsu around 25 last year preseason. Didn't they finish around 15?
Football was 23, finished 6.

Of course you somehow made this thread about football. You are so predictable
We won the SEC last year. There is no rebuild to be done.

Basketball can be rebuilt in 1 year. Football takes a few years.
I hope to see improvement in the team. Or, are we not allowed to have expectations of Wade? We good with sweet 16?

Why do you keep bringing up the football team? You can give credit to a coach of another sport without trying to inject your O fluffing into the conversation.
To answer your question I was very, very happy with last basketball season, including the program reaching the sweet 16 for the first time in 13 years. It will be hard to improve off of 16-2 conference record but I do hope we can make it to the Elite 8 or further this season. One of the reasons it's dumb to try and compare football to basketball is the roster turnover that is inherent in today's game. That and the fact that how you win a championship is completely different in the two sports. Also saying finishing 6th in football is better than finishing 15th or 16th in basketball isn't logical because there are 350 D1 basketball teams as opposed to 130 FBS football teams. It's literally a completely different sport altogether. That said, I think it's fair to expect at a baseline that we are in the top 4 or so of the SEC every year and in the tournament just about every year.

curious to know how long baseball takes to "rebuild"?

Will Wade, in year three, can't crack preseason top 20.
Preseason ratings are mostly irrelevant anyway.
When the season starts, Wade will have the chance to prove the prognosticators wrong.

Man, even chinhoyang is in here making sense and talking reasonably about basketball and Wade.
Axlpin, or whatever, you should feel really bad about yourself and your extremely ignorant hot take.

Of all the major sports, preseason basketball rankings mean the least imo.
We find a big body and we'll repeat what we did last year.
We don't land a big body, still think we'll be 90% capability of last year.

Basketball doesn't take years to rebuild.
Well then it’s a good thing he completely rebuilt the program in his second year then right?

That's bs on the 350 to 113. Just because you have a bunch of teams doesn't mean they are competitive. Just like football, basketball has pretty much the same teams every year in the mix. The 2009 team may not have made the sweet 16 but I thought they were better. They just happened to get a shitty seed and play #1 NC in second round (shoulda won).
I'll take a #6 finish in football over a sweet 16 appearance every day of the week. Apparently CBS feels the same way as they just named lsu #4 overall in sports, led by the football team.
I think the basketball team did fine this past year. I never thought they were a NC contender. I'm hoping Wade can lead us there. He needs to earn that "best coach on campus title" though.

So are you saying there is a higher percentage of competitive teams in football than basketball? Otherwise you don't have any kind of actual argument here.

Well, the SEC was WAY stronger in 2018/19 than in 2009 and LSU won the league both years and went further in the tournament in 2018/2019. So I'm not sure what you're basing this off of. I do agree they got shafted with seeding in 2009.

Agreed for the most part, though I think we would have won a couple games in the SECt, gotten a higher seed and had a better shot at going deeper in the tourney had Wade not been suspended.

Who do you think is the best coach on campus?

I'm a Wade fan. I hope he can get us to being a NC contender. I've been around long enough to see us have several real championship contending teams. Those have been far and few recently. As for my hot take, although I don't know you, I'd be willing to wager I've attended more games in person than you over the last 35-40 years.
I just think it is premature for people to be throwing out "best coach"...he will have his chance to prove it and I hope he is successful. But, by all means, start building the statue now.

Don't give me that about basketball. There's only about 40-50 competitive teams. I don't care if there are 700 teams.
Will Wade did a good job of getting major talent on campus, and I don't care how he got it. That's what it takes. I don't think he is a great basketball coach yet, but he is young and can get there.
As for best coach, there isn't a coach that clearly distinguishes themselves as the best. I think both Wade and O have the best shot at that. We will see how that plays out this year.

As many have said, preseason rankings don't mean a lot. But it's all we have right now. As of now, our ranking has regressed a little, no?

OK. Now do football.

But it doesn't mean anything, to make a "we're regressing as a program" statement based off preseason is maybe the dumbest thing anyone has done on this site ever...
They are literally a guess, go look at last year's and see how they compare to the end of the season
