I think the LSU defense could be special this year. Also sure the running game will improve but overall, have some real worries on offense.

Think the defense will keep LSU in most of its games like it did last year

the only thing I'm worried about but at least they're seeing it early so they have time to work on it

I'm hoping Chavis lets the corners play more aggressively and make it hard for the qb to make a quick read on third down. I'm hoping he was playing the corners soft because of a weak d line. The offense still scares me a lot.

Hearing the lack of confidence in Jefferson has me worried but like was stated above, at least it's early.

I really look for us to run the ball alot and if Jefferson can step, I see no reason why we can't be a serious threat in the passing game. Hopefully one day he steps in and turns it into his offense, and starts to run the show.

I'm excited about the news on this defense. We should be even better then last season. I hope they're as fast as coaches are claiming.

I agree 1,000,000%. There were way too many occasions last year, especially on 2nd/3rd and short that our corners were playing 5-10 yards off of the line of scrimmage. With our corners being so damn physical and fast last year, I don't understand why we wouldnt line up closer and make some more contact at the line of scrimmage.

I sure hope you're right as this is a scary statement by a coach about his starting QB:
quote:

“He’s more knowledgeable and coming of age,” Miles said [of Jefferson]. “We wish he’d just take it over. We wish he’d take some of the responsibility of the offense under his umbrella. I don’t know if he’s capable at this point, as young as he is, to do it.

and being "young" is no longer an excuse.

It's only spring but I really feel that Jefferson understands he's gotta grab this offense and make it his. I hope he develops this over the next few months.

I think the best move of this offseason was bringing in Gonzalez.

Not because of some great schemes he will bring or anything techincal like that, but because I am sure he brought the florida perspective of JJ that must be respected and could pierce last years staff's denial re: JJ's hugely problematic deficiencies.

These comments from Miles are very different in tone than anything I have heard from him before and for some reason they made me think that BG or someone has finally helped Miles realize how woefully inadequate JJ is in some areas.

If its any consolation the QB's have looked pretty good the last two springs and that didn't work out too well, so spring can be misleading.

Hopefully more time with Coach Gonzolez will help JJ with his reads and decision making, though I know Coach G isn't a qb coach.

Our run defense has to come together quick-like.

I want our corners to be on WRs like white on rice, stink on shite. I want elaborate coverages and exotic blitzes.

Seems like Miles may be playing things a little closer to the vest after our "fans" jumping all over his praise of the OL last spring.

Why give them any ammo? If JJ comes out and plays well, no one will care what Miles said about him in spring. If he doesn't, he can say told you so.

Seems like a smart move to me.

I fully expect that JJ has plenty of things that need work, but I think JJ played well last year given what he had to work with, and expect to see solid improvement this year with better OL and RB play, as well as Billy G's influence on the O.

just because they see it and are working on it doesnt mean it will be fixed...its not something that can be fixed...You cant just make someone into a smart football player overnight...guys like flynn and Hester came from good programs and started at early ages...they have the ability to think in the middle of the game...Im not sure if we have one QB that can do that...

who knows...my big hope is the Gonzo will tell Crowton when he is trying to run stuff that's too complex. It appears to me that a coaching session with Crowton is more like a Calculus class than a discussion about football. Both QB's have had issues with instincts, leadership, pocket presence, decision-making etc. All of which leads me to believe their heads are swimming with confusion as plays are unfolding in real-time.

JJ should be okay in the short yardage passing but its the long plays that worry me. If our O line blocks well and we establish a strong running attack then we should do well, just my opinion

Until I see him suck behind a good Oline then I think he still should start, unlike the year before where we had a very good Oline and good ground game.
