Ask our opponents if they they think TS is loud, most will say it's deafening. We haven't really had that huge of a game yet, but WV and Tenn got pretty loud. Nov 6 will be loud, if we beat auburn, nov 6 will be INSANE!

Meh. He's probably right, Nancy.

Rece Davis just teased the Oregon - UCLA game by saying Oregon's Autzen Stadium is billed as the loudest venue in nation.
and, it is.

Fwiw, the loudest that TS has ever been measured was 129.8 decibles, Autzen is 127.4. I will give credit when it's due though, TS does seat over 30,000 more than Autzen. If TS were fully enclosed it would probably get alot louder though.

Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee are all just as loud as LSU. And a handful of other stadiums throughout the rest of the country, including Autzen.

Auzten is specifically designed to retain sound.

Honestly, you can go to most places in teh SEC and it's louder than Oregon.

Last year vs UF Tebow kept having to check the sidelines for new calls. It got pretty loud I thought.

Meh, I've been to Autzen, and it's pretty damn loud.

Never been, but I've been to a lot fo stadiums. AU, Bama, LSU, Florida, and UGA are all loud.
But honestly, at that level, there's really no big difference.

When Rivals' Mainboard got together two years ago for the Bama game (fans from LSU, Bama, USC, Notre Dame, Oregon, Nebraska, Michigan, Florida State, etc..) the Oregon fan said Death Valley isloud, but not as loud as Oregon.
However, he did admit, there was a magical spookiness about Death Valley at night. When the sun went down, and they announced "It is now Saturday night in Tiger Stadium", he said he got chills and goosebumps, especially when LSU started to transform into a totally different team from when the sun was up.

I agree. It's tough to distinguish between those. Plus, when we go to away games, we sit in different parts of each stadium, so you really can't evenly compare each place.
Also, you should differentiate between peak noise on 3rd downs and really big plays vs. more consistent noise the entire time the visitor is on offense.

This. Well, I don't know if its part of the design, but it does.
Guy I work with played for Cal and in the NFL. Says Oregon is the loudest place he ever played.

It is. I watched an entire special they did on the Discovery channel about it's architecture. Very interesting.

What about it makes it retain sound?
Posted on 10/21/10 at 9:12 pm to Gtiger9757
the little midgets they employee from game to game grab all the sound molecules and throw them back into the stadium at light speed.
Pretty amazing.
Pretty amazing.

The way it's designed creates a badass acoustic environment. I really don't know the ends and outs but I'm sure you google it and find some article that explains it.

LSU's was the loudest from the 1960's up until about 2004. The corporations (and tourists who are wine and dined by those bigwigs) filling the seats and suites has made LSU's atmosphere lose luster.

Sorry, but the greatest college football coach forever and always said this, "Baton Rouge just happens to be the worst place in the world for a visiting team. It's like being inside a drum." Tiger Stadium is by far the scariest, and when it feels the need, deafen you.

Actually, in an ESPN piece last year, they said sound wasn't figured into the original design. The effect was accidental. I'm sure it has been taken into account in expansions since then, though.
