Hahaha that is so true. The statement from ESPN does not make sense. I love the no name "SEC Coordinator" commenting. I would suggest that LSU has been one of the most improved teams in CFB because of the portal.

I look at it more like the standards are higher at LSU now. People expect us to have a top class to fill our needs without having to hit the portal hard.
But that's completely retarded though. They are not looking at the whole picture. We are getting guys that have many years of eligibility on top of one year fixes. With the way money is being thrown around now for high school kids, you can't get everybody you need because a kid you'd probably pay 100 grand for will get 300 grand somewhere else because he is more coveted.

There is nothing wrong with hitting the portal. Bama got like 6 high ranking and immediate portal needs last year and nobody had a problem. A team that gets a billion 5 stars a year was still snatching elite prospects from the portal.

Dude who said what he said, being a "SEC coordinator" wouldn't have opened his mouth if Saban did the same.

Portal players, IN GENERAL, will soon be recognized as more valuable than high school recruits. 1) They have a year or more of physical and mental development vs a high school signee, and therefore can contribute more quickly; 2) A degree of uncertainty regarding how they perform at the college level can be eliminated, and 3) They are less likely to transfer than a high school player.

The sports writers still haven't adjusted to the new reality.

Pretty ignorant quote to say it’s a never ending cycle. In our situation you have to use it for a couple of years to 3 years probably to give your high school classes time to mature and develop. Doesn’t have to be something they keep doing every year by any means but hell if there are guys who can help you why not do it.

It is ignorant, both on the part of the sportswriter and the coach he quotes. The staff was in scramble mode last year just to fill a functional roster, which they did a damn good job with. But because of that, we took a bunch of guys in the portal who either just had a year to play, or were good enough to leave for the draft after one season.

Now you have a chunk of the portal guys gone, several seniors leaving and a few guys going to the draft, as well as guys who got passed up or didn’t make headway leaving in the portal. One portal haul last year and a full first full year recruiting class doesn’t cover all of that.

I do agree that the roster flux should start to settle out after this year. We have more guys in this portal class who either have to or are likely to stay for more than one year, which will help with turnover.

Clemson recruits well and has legitimate talent from the high school ranks. Florida State has had to hit the portal harder to fill glaring needs. They’re good but they aren’t as talented as a Clemson. Dabo is still getting five and high end four star talents. Klubnik will be a very good player as well.
