ESPN+ article discussing how teams did with the transfer portal. FSU was their top school and they are pumping the hell out of them to be back again.
I don’t believe LSU got the same love.
Michigan, OU, UCLA, Colorado, Wisconsin, and USC were the other teams listed

LSU might be a little bit different, where you can get some blue chips that can help you right away, but it's hard."

I look at it more like the standards are higher at LSU now. People expect us to have a top class to fill our needs without having to hit the portal hard.

Pretty ignorant quote to say it’s a never ending cycle. In our situation you have to use it for a couple of years to 3 years probably to give your high school classes time to mature and develop. Doesn’t have to be something they keep doing every year by any means but hell if there are guys who can help you why not do it.
I don’t think you’ll continue to see us as active in there once Kelly has 3 full recruiting classes under his belt here

We started last year with 71 scholarship players and lost some to the draft and graduation and transfers out. We were always going to have to hit the portal hard again this year. Did they expect us to sign 50 HS players?

Exactly. It’s ignorant to suggest it’s a never ending cycle. If they bother to research and know our situation they’d understand why Kelly is cleaning up in the portal 2 straight years. If you have the luxury to do it while you build your roster up with your high school classes why the hell would you not

If Clemson has a more talented roster than FSU right now I would like to see it play on the field because I think FSU has a more talented roster right now.

I think they just forget things like that sometimes. If you’re not an LSU fan you probably forgot that by now, especially since we won the West.

First, it's not the ESPN correspondent who said it's "one of those never-ending cycles." It was an SEC Coordinator.
Second, if they reinstate the annual cap on recruits, relying heavily on the portal can become problematic. With a 25-player annual cap, you only get an extra 15 players over the 85-player limit over 4 years. (25+25+25+25 = 100 - 85 = 15). Replacing HS players with short-term portal players cuts into that 15-player margin. Thus, it can become a never-ending cycle.
Nevertheless, the anonymous SEC Coordinator seems to exaggerate, if not miss, the point under current conditions. Right now, LSU can take as many as it wants as long as it stays under 85, and next year, those players might all be HS players.
Third, LSU is killing it in the portal. ESPN can kiss Kelly's arse.

This isn’t directed at anyone but why does it matter where we get good players from? If we can get an all American out of the portal then we should do that. I don’t think we will ever have to rely on it but we should always be looking to it to see what’s there. Gibbs was bamas best player this year.

This coordinator’s perspective is a bit antiquated. This is not 5 years ago, where overly relying on juco transfers to fill roster holes would be a risky and unsustainable strategy. This is the portal landscape, where all teams will have significant roster turnover every year, requiring coaches to scout and pursue a much broader pool of players, or else you’re not going to fill out your roster with the quality you need. Until the portal/transfer rules change, this is how you operate to succeed.

This is the important part. Most programs won’t be able to attract the caliber of players LSU can.
So many kids are in the portal for a reason. If they couldn’t cut it at their first stop, will things be better at their next one? Those are not the players Kelley is bringing in.
We are getting the players, by and large, who exceeded expectations at other programs, and are now looking for a bigger, better stage to show their talents.
