I think both would have received meaningful carries and opportunities to hone special teams prowess to get drafted.

either could have taken carries from #14 and #44 last night.

Just because you are marginally "ready" and will be a mid round pick and fight for a spot...doesn't mean you are "ready". He is by far our best DL, but he should stay.

Just because we want him to stay doesn't mean he should. Ego has had a great year and is physically ready to play in the NFL. He has a chance to be a 1st rounder if he has a good combine.

Some will make league minimum for a couple of years, leave with no degree, have no retirement and are in a bind. Staying is a good option for some. But I don't really care about that, I care about a commitment to a university and a culture where they want to stay to enjoy the success of the program.

I don't understand the obsession with "the degree". The league minimum is multiples of what any recent college graduate can expect to earn. What do you think the earning potential of a sociology degree is, seriously? Most scholarship football athletes are not Nacho Albergamo, Matt Mauck, or Rodney Reed. The league minimum is more than enough to cover an eventual one-year stint at a public university if that's so crucial.

Does the athletic department have a career services office? If so, they should put posters up of these guys to show the other Jr. Classmen that not every payday pans out and graduating, so you can get a degree and become a leader / Man, is always worth it.

"Look at these guys, leaving early only to make NFL rosters and bigger paydays than any recent college graduate, isn't that awful?"

Here is the reality. 78% of NFL players go bankrupt within 5 years. This includes "highly drafted players who make a lot of money"! Ever hear of Vince Young?

This agent really lays it out. LINK

It seems to me that if a college really had their players best interest at heart they would have some kind of course on personal finance and investments and make it mandatory for being on the team. That would/should benefit players even if they aren't drafted and go on to the NFL.

No one is saying he's terrible or we hate the guy - read my initial post. Its just obvious they aren't ready to make a big splash in the NFL or the draft.

Freak had two tackles and one hurry.

…and when he wasn't taking plays off he was owned and pancaked by Steen. BAMA didn't feel the need to double team him at all. You give Saban that kind of physical specimen and he makes him a man. Player development not talent level is vastly different at BAMA than LSU. The raw talent is there for LSU but the fire ain't being put to it's arse like it would be at BAMA.

Have to agree with pretty much everything you said.

I agree. By the same token, Freak is not ready. Far from it, in fact.

Ego and Freak certainly not draft ready
I spoke with Johnson's HS headcoach last week, he's gone. He's been told by NFL people that he will be a 1st round pick and is projected to move to DE in a 3-4 base.

Freak was a 1st rounder until he started playing this season and the tape got out on him. It don't matter if he switches to DE in the 3-4, he is not even winning one on one battles against Furman. If he can't win one on one, how can he take a double team as a DT in the 4-3, or DE in the 3-4 in the NFL. He has spent more time on the ground than anything. Bama put one player on him and handled him like many teams have done this year. Some team may draft him off physical capability in the 3rd or 4th round, but I'd bet the car he wont be going near the first with what the tape shows. NFL coaches will not be fooled by theatrics. He can listen to these agents telling him he's a lock, but there is no way they look at that tape and he goes in the 1st.
