I hope I'm wrong, but I will suck a monkeys arse if freak goes in the first round. And as far as the guys we redshirted this year, they are not even close to being break out players next year. With the complete lack of depth at DT this year, if these guys were even anywhere near average they would have played. Especially knowing that miles and chavis are not scared to play freshman. DT/DL play was the main reason for all three of our loses and our poor defensive play. Bama, Georgia and Ole Miss ran all over, especially in the fourth quarter. When a team runs all over you in the fourth quarter in a close game, you can forget about it. Yes our LB play was average at best but it has been so obvious and even more so last night that when on the snap your DL gets blown back for three yards each play, there's no way the LBS can stop that surge especially when the OL is already to the next level. The way to fix this defense is upfront and it doesn't look like it will happen next year. In years past, LSUS defensive line would stuff the run for no gain or a loss one out of every three plays. We don't have the studs there, it's so obvious. Our number three guy would probably start for no one in the SEC.

I did not intend to bash anyone. Anyone who forfeits eligibility and becomes an UDFA has made a poor decision.

I spoke with Johnson's HS headcoach last week, he's gone. He's been told by NFL people that he will be a 1st round pick and is projected to move to DE in a 3-4 base.
I'll be shocked if he's a 1st rounder. He's done so little, I can't see how anyone would take that chance on someone they need to pay big bucks to. Then you look at the other D-lineman from LSU that were drafted really high...

No one is saying he's terrible or we hate the guy - read my initial post. Its just obvious they aren't ready to make a big splash in the NFL or the draft.

Does the athletic department have a career services office? If so, they should put posters up of these guys to show the other Jr. Classmen that not every payday pans out and graduating, so you can get a degree and become a leader / Man, is always worth it.

I have specifically watched Johnson on many plays. He either gets totally dominated or he puts his head down and just drives himself into the ground. I have never seen him dominate anyone at the point of attack. So many on here have said that he always gets double teamed. Rarely does this happen. It doesn't need to. He is nowhere near an NFL ready prospect. He is average at best as a college player and I'm being nice

quote:Once again, I'd like to know where some of you are getting this? Ware & Ford are currently on NFL rosters. Montgomery was a loose cannon way before he was drafted by Houston.

as undrafted free agents they have absolutely no protection from getting cut or released. They both could have stuck around and worked on areas to increase their draft stock and work themselves into a more secure situation. Montgomery was not mature enough to handle his situation.

"Look at these guys, leaving early only to make NFL rosters and bigger paydays than any recent college graduate, isn't that awful?"

Freak, Ego, and Collins SHOULD stay. They will leave, be drafted mid rounds and we will notch up more drafted players...like it makes a shite.
IMO Hill should stay, because we stood by him, but he will go....
Landry and Beckham should go, they have done their best and they will be drafted high.

either one of those guys could be cut and playing arena ball or in canada on the drop of a dime. It isnt bad. But they could have improved their current situations by remaining at LSU.

Or, they could've suffered career-ending injuries in practice or games, or a concussion that would've kicked off a string of subsequent concussions, or there was little room for improvement as depth contributors in a packed backfield.

Some will make league minimum for a couple of years, leave with no degree, have no retirement and are in a bind. Staying is a good option for some.
But I don't really care about that, I care about a commitment to a university and a culture where they want to stay to enjoy the success of the program.

Ego is ready. He doesn't get the credit he deserves because the LBs playing behind him haven't been too good.

Right, with so many unknowns, go with the given. Get you arse in class, get a meaningful degree, then take your chances with football.
All the above could happen in the NFL and probably will if you are a marginal player anyway. With ZERO protection.

Just because you are marginally "ready" and will be a mid round pick and fight for a spot...doesn't mean you are "ready". He is by far our best DL, but he should stay.

I agree that that Montgomery could have stayed around a bit. But, people also said the same thing when Brockers left early.
