Eating Crow: Moffitt and Miles style

Prior to this season, I was consistently critical of the conditioning of the team under Moffitt (see cramping from prior seasons) and the coaching/game management under Miles.
While there is still work left to realize the goals of the season, it is apparent that Moffitt and Miles belong in the elite status. Not because of the fact they are 9-0 and in control of their our own destiny for a 3rd shot at the SEC title and second trip to the BCS title game, but for the fact that they have demonstrated a willingness to change things up in the spirit of learning from the past and preparing for the future.
The days of co-defensive coordinators are behind us and the budget and facilities at Miles' disposal should guarantee access to top coaches should others leave or Miles determines an upgrade is needed. In short, I was wrong. Miles was not driving the program off the cliff, he was simply correcting course and setting the program up for long term success.

We pretty much have co OCs now. It wasn't that we had 2 DCs, it was that we had THOSE TWO DCs. They sucked. Not the situation itself.

While your mea culpa is noble, I have a hard time taking anybody seriously who ever thought he was driving the program off a cliff. He certainly has made some boneheaded decisions, but every single coach in the history of sports has too. But I never got the feeling he wasn't in control of the program and had it heading in the right direction.

I will agree with you wholeheartedly here. I think it's clear Miles is a better coach now than he was when he got here. He's grown. And I think that's admirable.

You're forgiven on one condition: don't freak out the next time a little adversity comes our way. If Miles stays for several more years, there WILL be a three or four loss season. This league is too damn strong to not have a down year or two.

Maybe they need to open up every season against a team that goes no huddle and it will continue to light a fire under their asses to be in top shape once the season starts.

I think it's coming in '13. We are probably going to have a shite ton of early defectors after next season. We will be all kinds of young going into '13.

Yep. 2013 could be tough, particularly if we are even better in 2012 than I think we'll be (i.e., if Mett lights it up and goes pro after one season).

I think we'll be very good but I don't think Mett will go pro after one season
I'm excited about the defense. If for some crazy reason Claiborne decides to stay for his senior year (I know it's a long shot) I think the 2012 team could be capable of a NC

Tommy Moffitt was fighting through cancer in 2009 and not able to put his normal effort into the team's conditioning. It amazes me this isn't discussed more often.

Obviously you didn't know that Moffit had some personal health issues that year...NO NEED TO EVER QUESTION MOFFIT and his ablility...educate yourself first..

I can tell you that Gary Crowton created the Mad Hatter. CLM had to dig deep to overcome the terrible decision-making of Crowton in order to win games. And this probably deserves it's own thread. But consider this year, case and point, improved OC, NO Mad Hatter!

He must not know a lot about the program if he was questioning moffitt
The dude has been THE BEST STRENGTH & CONDITIONING COACH in college football for a while

To correct course, though, he first had to 'blow it' and then correct course. I agree he has corrected, but you can't deny history. The story of Miles at LSU has not been completely written, but the full story will surely include both the high profile failures, as well as the celebrated successes.

You were dead wrong about Miles and you are still too stubborn to admit it.

Moffitt has been in the elite status for many years. How you could not know that is beyond me. I'm sure you'll be the first off of the bandwagon with just the slightest adversity.

The failures may have been high profile because they were on national TV, but they're minor in the overall success he's brought this program. Ingrates such as yourself will always be on the lookout for the negatives.
