They lost a ton, getting them early is huge regardless of venue. They’re going to look a lot different in November than they do when we play them.

This right here. Herman is literally one of the only Big 12 coaches actually trying to build a defense. Their DC is experimental like Aranda, but he just hasn't had the talent and experience in his unit yet. Their last two classes have been defensive heavy so while I expect a huge win because the game is very early in the year, if it was say, game 9 or 10, I'd expect it to be a toss up. While I don't expect their defense to be great by the end of the year, I do expect it to be much improved from the beginning of the year, and their offense will be a machine later on in the year.

Sorry I’m not negative like you, I realize that O has stockpiled talent over the last three seasons.
The only problem is that Orgeron has only two classes and one of them isn’t even on campus yet. The 2017 class was 3/4 committed before Miles was fired.

You are naive if you think Texas will be a cakewalk. We will be fortunate to get out of there with a win.

I joined this board specifically because of this upcoming game. I enjoy threads like this, and I'll be posting after the game, win or lose.
My thoughts.....
Under Herman, Texas has greatly improved, and is a much better coached team than under Charlie Strong, but Herman's teams in Austin have been a hot-mess early in both seasons. Will the program take a step forward and play well at the beginning of the 2019 season? With a veteran QB there is hope, but no one knows for sure.
Another Texas flaw is not putting teams away. Texas put up huge leads against OU (first game) and UGA, and let them come back. Can this coaching staff get this team to put a good team away if they have an early lead? God knows.
The "talent" talk on this thread is interesting. Texas & LSU are VERY close in terms of talent. LSU can't beat Texas on talent alone.
I've seen people talk about the defensive players Texas lost. Texas lost a bunch, mostly in the front 7. This is not a negative, but a positive for the Horns. Other than Omenihu, the DE who went in the 5th round, everyone else Texas lost from the front 7 went undrafted for a reason. The guys who will take their place are more talented, and you could see them making play after play against Georgia in the Sugar Bowl.
This game will be interesting with LSU changing its offense to a type Texas sees all the time in the Big 12. Our DBs will know this system better than your WRs. Also, a year or so ago, Texas had the most talented DB recruiting haul in the history of recruiting. LSU is very vulnerable here.
Lastly, this comes down to Ehlinger. Look at his stats from last season, his year was bananas. He'll have a nice game against LSU. He'll run for multiple touchdowns and pass for multiple touchdowns. You can't help but be a fan of the way he plays, and you will all respect him when the final whistle blows.

Texas did sign the best DB class of all time in 2018. But that gets swept under the rug by other teams fans for some reason. I believe there are 6 five stars dbs on Texas roster now. LSU fans will hate this but Texas was dbu before LSU was a simple search on Google proves this. Texas fell off for years and lost the dbu claim. Tom herman even said he will try to bring the dbu claim back to Texas. LSU is dbu for now but Texas is coming back.

Not a blowout score. You’re capable of doing better work than this.

Sorry to disagree, but I don’t see Ehlinger running and passing for “multiple touchdowns.” You act like Dave Aranda hasn’t faced a dual threat QB before. I’ll take LSU’s defense over your offense any day of the week, and twice on Sundays. Also, if LSU is able to run the ball successfully, Texas will be in a lot of trouble.

Texas has a good run d. They weakness has been mobile QBs scrambling for chuncks of yards. See Kyler Murray.

I'm not stupid. I know LSU's D talent & coaching is elite. I still think Ehlinger runs for 2 TDs and passes for 2 TDs.
We'll see.

Only fans blinded by purple and gold think LSU will blow Texas out. We could get blown out just as easily.

How much will they be willing to run Ehlinger in a non-conference early season game? And running the QB is a key part of Herman's offense.

LSU started last season with great force however the fanbase is stupid and puts Miami down as weak rather than recognize LSU. TEXAS IS A THREAT"

Nope. Texas inexperience will slow them down early season next year.

I know just as many Texas fans who think that the Horns will blow LSU out of DKR. There are stupid fans on both sides. I see this being a tough, hard fought game that could go either way. Ehlinger is good, and tough as nails. That said, he's not going to beat LSU by himself. A good defense can him look very average.

Maybe so but you don’t know this as a fact. I think we win but it will most likely be close.

That they lost a lot? Of course we do.

No that it will slow them down.
