That's right. I forgot about him. Wasn't he on the team that eliminated the Tigers in the super-regional at Zephyr in Skip's last series as head coach?

Bogusevic did as well but I think he was designated as the friday guy, then they would put him in right field sat and sunday. Was drafted 1st round by the Astros as a RHP, sucked arse in MiLB and got switched to OF (a la Rick Ankiel) and has been playing very well in his new position.

Yes, I think so. He was from Shreveport and the buzz at the time was that he wanted to come to LSU but Skip told him he had to choose between pitching and being an everyday player. If you remember, Bertman did not believe in allowing a player to do both. It is hard to question Skip on anything, but I question his stance on this. We lost out on a few studs over the years. Brian Weise was another I think.

Nice job LSURussian! I personally think we could have found our big lefty out of the pen.....who knew it was our starting free safety

Bertman promised Paul Byrd that he would get a shot at being a position player as well as a pitcher. He had to tell Byrd that or Byrd would have gone to Arizona St. On the first day of fall practice Byrd's freshman year he got one round of hitting. Bertman told him that ended his time as a position player and he was now a full time pitcher. After 10+ years as a MLB pitcher I guess Bertman was right.

It certainly worked out for Byrd's pro career! Like I said, it is hard to question Skip on anything, but I sure would have liked to have had Aubrey in a Tiger uniform. We lost out on a few great ones because of this. Of course, you can't argue with the success we had.

from a CJ interview from summer '06

and heres a scouting report

yes JMitch was recruited for FB, I assumed because he has skipped out of spring for the last two season (most of spring last season) that he was bb, rumors are that he won't be on FB in the fall, I heard Cleveland was interested in JMitch

just like JMitch did for FB I believe (BB, and walked-on FB)

i think there's a rule against this. cause of some shady shite that bear bryant used to pull, like having a bunch of studs who happen to be awesome at football sign with the baseball team. correct me if im wrong.

You are right. Any player that plays football and any other sport and has a scholarship, has to be on a football scholarship.

" Since I know very little about baseball tactics/strategy, I was wondering if it would be feasible to play Chad in the outfield and move him to the mound periodically during games to pitch to left handers? "

" Probably not unless it's to the first batter of an inning. Jones would need to warm up on the bull pen mound some first. Kinda' hard to do that while playing in left field.

I know one of the Harris brothers did that a few years ago when his field position was third base. He at least got some throws in to warm up just during the infield "throw arounds." It's tough to do at the SEC level. Tulane had a SS who would switch to the mound some, too. He's playing pro ball now "

Russian , I can't believe that nobody has mentioned the best example of a position player in college ball coming in for relief with little warming and in fact he was the right fielder from one of the most talented teams in college history. 1985 ..... Brantley , Clark , Theisen ,Palmero(sp) , ect............................................................................................................................................................oh yea and Mississippi State right fielder Bobby Thigpen who 5 years later set the major league record for saves w/57 which stood for 18 years til K-Rod broke it !

PS They usually didn't need him when Jeff Brantley started.

GO SEC !!!
