A&M has beaten both teams that are playing in the Big 12 Championship game. They tied for the champs of the South division and lost on a tie-breaker to OU.

Why would we not want to play a top ten ranked big 10 school?

Enough of this #10 v. #18 stuff! It is a bowl game people, it is not about the relative rankings of other programs that we MIGHT have played under different circumstances.

If a matchup against a top ten team was so important, then the players should have prevailed on the field. None of you were on the field... so accept your lot as a fan and move on.

and we lost to Arkansas on a neutral field by 7 after committing 4 turnovers. We were throwing in the endzone at the end of the game to tie it.

This was before we switched QBs. I'm not saying we would have beaten Arkansas otherwise, but you will have a tough team on your hands.

So under your theory where LSU is ranked after the bowl games is irrelevant. I beg to differ. Final ranking is of utmost importance for prestige and recruiting.

Which affects final ranking for the better? Playing the 18th ranked team or the number 8 ranked team?

Which helps more? Beating the 8th ranked or 18th ranked team? Which hurts more? Losing to the 8th ranked or 18th ranked team?

Playing A&M in the Cotton Bowl is alright I guess. It's kind of a let down for me though. For some reason, I was really hoping to play Michigan State in the Capital One bowl.

i agree .. it does nothing for me .. took the shine off of the cotton bowl to me .. sorry, but i could give a crap what stadium we are playing in .. i am more interested in the matchup ... when it was a possible oklahoma, nebraska, or okie state game .. i was excited .. i still can't figure out why the bid was handed to a&m this early ..

This is the way I see it, folks... we aren't playing for a championship. If we win our bowl game, no one is going to single LSU out for some kind of special "Hey, you won the Capitol One Bowl" award.

We are 10-2. There are no accolades for us anymore this year.

So why not have some fun?

Michigan State is a boring team that generates ZERO excitement nationally or here in Louisiana. NO ONE is getting all excited to play Michigan State. People in Michigan don't even like Michigan State.

A&M, though... now that's something different. That's a rare opportunity to play some "friends" who we don't visit with enough. There's tension. There's a little bit of bad blood. There's rivalry. Either side would rather hang themselves than lose to the other.

Plus, it's an exciting venue. Admit it. It's pretty cool.

Winning a game against A&M would make this season feel a whole lot better to a lot of people.

This is why we play football, folks... to have fun, interesting and meaningful contests. You only go around the planet once. Make it fun!

I'm saddened that so many of our fans have grown up without ever seeing an LSU/A&M game.

If you have never seen one, and you think it's a bad idea, talk to me afterwards. I'll bet that you change your tune. This is a really special game, and I'm confident you will come to see this.

LSU-TAMU is an old traditional matchup. we had a great rivalry with them in the 80's and 90's. well, ok it was not so great after 88. but it was fun playing them.

The huge Aggie Band doing the military drill thing at halftime is entertaining too..........
