No. He doesn't deserve respect unless he does something worth respecting, and turning a top 5 program into a top 15-25 program is not in that category. Even in the ridiculously unlikely event that he did somehow restore the program to prominence, it's hard to respect someone after something as bad as the Ole Miss debacle. Some blunders are just so bad you never live them down. That game, more than any other of his career, will be his legacy.

Duh... on me -- 75th anniversary of the SEC this year.

So - either Bama moves to 22 or Florida goes to 9 and is still behind LSU.

Ah, back to using the absolute worst as the measuring stick for LSU football again. Why do so many of our fans have such an infatuation with mediocrity?

The problem is that there are a group of fans that will never be satisfied with Miles. Miles' style and public speaking are unlikely to change, so there will always be a group of people that don't like him.
This is very true, but that's Mile's own fault...change your style, and people will like you more.

If we were 12-0 like Alabama and Florida, having won like they did, there would still be people bitching.
They may be bitching about his style, but not being 12-0. I bitch about his style, but I could live with it if he would produce better football teams. Having an AWFUL style and BAD football team combination though, is just too much and requires a change.
quote:

There would be a lot less with that record, but until LSU dominates every game,
Not really, I think they are just looking for a better coached team, and a more publicly presentable coach.

I'm not "infatuated with mediocrity" at all - I just realize that when you look at what league we play in -- "championships" get spread around a good bit -- so winning them ain't such and easy thing --- there are NO BAD teams in our division anymore.

We can be REALLY good and lose 2 games and be 3rd in our division - that's how competive it is in the SECW.

Wait until Florida plays LSU, Alabama and hopped up Arkansas team, or Auburn in the same year in the near future -- then we'll see how easy it is to win championships.

Or has actually watched the team plan and not just flipped over to ESPN after Grey's Anatomy to check the LSU score.

Then why has Alabama breezed through it undefeated two years in a row?

Florida DOES play in the SEC, just like we do. No, they didn't play Alabama, but they did play at LSU, they did play a "hopped up" Arkansas team, and they did play a full slate of other games. And we did see how easy it was for them to win the SEC East championship. They're also in strong contention for their third national championship in four years.

The fact is we've lost the SEC West by a combined eight games plus two tiebreakers in the last two seasons. Our regular season SEC record since the Ole Miss game of 2007 is 8-9. That's mediocrity. Dress it up however you want and beat your chest about wins over crappy non-conference opponents that artificially inflate his record, but the fact remains that we are a mediocre program now. We were a mediocre TEAM last year, but two years in a row says something about the PROGRAM.

Miles inherited an elite program and has turned it into a mediocre one. Anybody can do that, and it's not anything anyone should respect.

First off, I truly believe that because of the Ole Miss debacle, a small number of fans (not me) will never again give Miles the respect he deserves no matter what he accomplishes from now on. Maybe, just maybe another National Title would change their minds but anything less, and that includes a SEC Title, would not be 100% acceptable because they believe LSU could still do better. Not only is that a shame, but it's also a pretty sad and pathetic mindset to have IMO.

Anyway, back to your question though. No, winning over JoPa most likely won't change anyone's mind about Miles. We already know what he's capable of when he has plenty of time to prepare. However if we were to lose, the anti-Miles bitching will be out in full force once again for a couple weeks because a 4-1 bowl record, as if we didn't know already, won't cut it and this latest loss is clearly an indication he's lost his touch and the program is in a downfall etc.

Uh - yes -- see my earlier post

Bama 21
Tenn 13
UGA 12
LSU 10
UF 9

So - that's spreading it around a good bit 65 of the 75 - the other 10 spread between the remaining teams and some that are no longer in the SEC.

Bama won all there games - but the did not "breeze" through it... AND they got their arse kicked by Utah in the Sugar bowl.

Bama nearly lost to AU last week and the didn't exactly dominate LSU last year if you recall.

23 - 13 over UT -- if you saw it UT had a shot
13 - 3 over LSU - if you saw it LSU had a shot
23 - 20 over ARK - Arkanas definately had a shot
29 - 19 over MSU - if you saw it MSU had a shot
24 - 14 over USC - if you saw it USC had a shot but not as much as some of the others.

So - UF is 5-0 this year in those games --- it's not a wild stretch to see them turning that from 5 - 0 to 3 - 2 or 2 - 3 -- and that's what LSU did.

OM -- piss poor coaching decisions - agreed
UF -- offense sucked -- but D had us in it - a break here and there - LSU wins
Bama --- you saw it -- we had our chances - the refs didn't help.

If in your job, you did a better job than one of your peers who is 80 years old and senile, would you get much respect?

I think it's more of a Penn State thing then a Joe Pa thing.

IMO Joe Pa hasn't coached that team in about 3 years.

This years team is right where Saban left LSU at...2nd in the SEC west and headed to play a big Ten team in the Cap one bowl. We can only hope result of the bowl game is better.

If we win the bowl game, we finish in the top 10...hardly "mediocre"...but you live in a world of extremes.
