I like that we have a declared starter and I’m comfortable with Daniels in that role. I also think it helps to have a 1B, who gets meaningful playing time to keep him sharp.

Pretty much zero coaches on any level agree with you. But whether you agree with it or not, Nuss is not 1B—he is #2. And possessions are too precious in any game, but may be even more so in this game to “waste” by bringing in the player you’ve deemed to be inferior to replace the one you’ve deemed superior.

I am not saying Nuss’s hypothetical drive would automatically be a “waste.” I am not even talking about Nuss or Jayden specially. Just that the concept of playing 2 QBs that you’ve put forward is not a winning formula. Especially in this game where both offenses are expected to be really good and possessions should be limited.

If Nuss is the future. He needs to get him into the game for a few snaps to keep him sharp.

You keep making this point as if Kelly is going to employ the same strategy for a top 10 FSU squad in the season opener as he did for a bowl game against Purdue's fringe of the roster guys after half the team opted out with a celebrity stand-in coach.

Are you assuming that Garrett only played in the bowl game? He played in 7 games last year, with increasing game time later in the season, including in the SECCG and the bowl game.

I’m not denying that IF Daniels is playing well and we are in a tight game with FSU, Garrett getting into the game is less likely, even highly unlikely.

The factors involved in that decision, though, are based on the comfort level that the coaches have with the backup. I believe that the coaches have high confidence in Nussmeier, so it’s not as if they are just playing a wild card.

Sometimes, the relative strengths and weaknesses of QB’s can give the coaches an idea to try a new tactic.

For instance, if we’re behind, it’s possible that the coaches might try Garrett to take advantage of his stronger arm, deeper ball, and greater commitment to passing instead of scrambling.

Let’s hope that doesn’t come true, and Daniel’s leads us to a blow out.

The bowl game I've already discussed why. The SEC CG Daniels was obviously hurt and limped to the sidelines so Nuss got the rest of the game.

The other 5 games? Southern, New Mexico, UAB, all mop up duty. Auburn? JD got hurt while sliding and got attended to on the sidelines and was riding the bike so Nuss came in for a bit until JD came back. That wasn't a "by design" scenario for Nuss to come in, it was by necessity. The A&M game similar story, Daniels got hit in the knee and came out for 1 play and was back in the next series

So yes, the only time Nuss went in the game because of anything other than injury or mop up duty was the bowl game.
