The OL was a factor in 2018. Lots of injuries and a revolving door trying to find the best (healthy) 5 up front. Of course, those guys went on to become our 2019 OL and most became NFL starters so you can’t really say it was a lack of talent.. more injuries, inexperience, and lack of continuity.
Remember we wound up running a lot of max protect in 2018 to keep Burrow off the ground. In 2019 we just went 5 WR and dared teams to blitz.
To your point though, that’s Burrow’s strength. I remember an interview with his OC when Burrow got to Cincinnati where the OC talked about how Burrow thrives when he has 5 guys in routes, because of his preparation and how fast he processes information.

What a silly statement.
Not really. Nuss is 7th in Heisman odds. He has started 1 game. Do you think Burrow came in in 2018 with 7th heisman odds? Nuss is a stud too, just like burrow and daniels, and has a better arm than both.

bs dude. Burrow took a while to adjust to starting....nothing wrong with that. He was mediocre at best the first half of the 2018 season. As for Daniels, he came to LSU after starting 3 years prior. didn't have a great 2022 season, and then blossomed his 5th season as a starter. But, we hold nuss to same standards as both, with only 1 start in history. lol

It's practice, that's what you do at practice. You test your ability in certain areas and adjust. Let's be patient and give him a chance to lead the team. I expect good things and won't throw him under bus.

Not really.
I was responding to someone who said that Daniels only having 4 INTs last year.. exact quote, “isn’t exactly a high bar.”
And I stand by my response - that’s a silly statement. Of course it’s a high bar. To say otherwise not only diminishes a literal Heisman Trophy performance from Daniels in 2023, but also saddles Nussmeier with completely unfair expectations.

First off, I think basing any opinions on the Heisman odds of a guy with 1 career start is also a little silly.
That being said, I’ve always been high on Nussmeier, since he was a recruit coming out of high school. He’s extremely mature, a natural leader, athletic, and has a hell of an arm. I wouldn’t dispute any of those things.
None of that changes the fact that Daniels’ 2023 performance is, in fact, a high bar - particularly if you’re expecting it from a first-time starter. Could he have that type of performance? Sure. I hope he does. But it’s a little absurd to expect it.

I mean am I not allowed to think that there can be multiple factors in a QB’s success? Is it really “bs” to think that inexperience at the QB position, inexperience/injuries on the OL, and scheme all played a part in Burrow’s 2018 performance?

What is your actual point here? In the previous post, you argue with me because I said that Daniels’ 2023 performance (specifically his TD/INT ratio) is a high bar. You went off about how much of a stud Nussmeier is and how he had the 7th best Heisman odds.
Now you’re saying that I’m holding Nuss to the same standard as Burrow and Daniels in their final seasons? That doesn’t make any sense.

I don’t worry about him per se, because I think I have reasonable expectations for him. We will not be as effective at the quarterback position, because the last two have been generational quarterbacks and he couldn’t beat them out for playing time.
I think his effectiveness passing will depend a lot on whether the wide receivers can win the battle and come down with contested balls. Other than that, we are supposed to have a very good offensive line so maybe we can get the running game going to take some pressure off him.

If you had to live through the years of celebrating a 200 yard performance by a LSU quarterback, then no.

He could go 6-6 this year. As long as the 25 class they’re building stays together he’s going nowhere and neither are the coaches recruiting those kids

My actual point was that we can't expect him to be 2019 Burrow, or 2023 Daniels. He will take some time, have some great throws, great games, and then a wtf moment. They all go through it. He could have a hell of a year, for sure, as I do believe he is "ready". Most likely he will come back though, in 2025, and have very high expectations, both individually and team wise.
