Does anyone really care how much we pay coaches?

I sure don't.

I keep reading about, we shouldn't pay that, or this, or that's too much.

If you crunch the numbers, you almost can't pay a successful coach enough.

The overall benefit to the school of a Final Four berth is tremendous, from higher enrollment, to merchandise sales, to alumni donations. It far exceeds whatever stats are released by the athletic department as far as profitability is concerned.

For that reason, LSU needs to identify the best possible coach and pay whatever it takes.

I agree.

I don't know if the athletic department does.

Kind of the purpose of my thread. We're going to need to pay out of the arse to get someone good considering the current state of the program. Do you see us spending that much?

Isnt the BBall program decently in the black with paying trent 1.4 and attendance in the shitter? IMO Scott drew is value to the AD in terms of increased concessions and ticket sells would be well over 1 million. Upping Drew to 2.4 and a chance to go to a place where he has been rumored to want to be for sometime might be enough to sway him.

i dont care personally.

But LSU has a budget. It's pretty obvious. So it definitely comes into play when fans talk about bringing in an A level coach.

I don't

but the timing is wrong for it to be about money IMO

I would be fine with LSU paying whatever it took but I don't think that is possible at the current time, meaning no one is leaving their gig for LSU, not the BIG names anyway

if it's the right guy, they should overpay, much like Emmert did to get Saban here in the first place

I see it that way, if you can GET one of the big names, money shouldn't be the thing that holds it up

Worst hire by LSU since Hallman. And I am not talking about Johnson.

As for coach salaries, I think we should be able to get a very solid coach for a similar salary to what we were paying Johnson. Johnson did not work at LSU, but it wasn't because the AD went the Joe Dean hire and tried to put 35 cents in the vending machine and expected to get 3 Sprites and a Cherry Coke.

You'd think he'd know what it takes to have a good basketball coach coming from DUKE

Alleva ain't going anywhere so let's hope it works out better this time, can't really get much worse IMHO

I had my concerns from him being from out west with no ties to recruiting.

Couple that with he didn't like to recruit in the first place and was never truly committed to lsu basketball.
