Offense, I want our D on the field as least as possible(for endurance purposes)

How does not deferring accomplish this? It would just mean Oregon gets the ball to start the second half against an even more tired D.

Or do you put the defense on the field first?
If you can't defer, take the ball. No brainer.

Defense all the way. Especially to give Lee time to settle by watching them

Well in my perfect scenario LSU gets the ball and runs 12 consecutive plays scoring a TD and using 7-8 minutes of clock. Defense is pumped 3 and out and offense has another long time consuming dirve...and so on.

defensive teams defer

If this is the case then they don't even need to do a coin flip. We will be absolutely be kicking to start the game.

I would guess LSU will defer if they win the toss. I think Oregon will take the ball if they win the toss. I would be willing to bet we see the defense first. Can't wait.

Give Oregon the ball and if our defense has out scored our offense in the first half, give them the ball again come second half.

no question you would rather start the game on d if you're lsu. give lee a chance to settle in and watch for a minute. yor d is your bread and butter and by getting them out there first, it always you to set the tone.

Conventional wisdom is that we will be able to run the ball but that O will be able to move the ball and score. Take the ball, pound it, move it, score it all while churning the clock, getting Lee comfortable early and getting rid of the butterflies. Plus, you get the opportunity to start and finish the first half with time consuming drives (a much better prospect that O starting and finishing with quick scoring drives). It is not going to help Lee to stew on the sidelines. It's not going to help our O to start 7 down (as awesome as our D is...it could happen). Auburn really fricked up by not playing smart and eating clock and it allowed O to hang around despite getting outplayed on both sides of the ball.

Don't underestimate the positive of getting the ball first to start the second half. If you are getting your butt beat, getting the ball first in the 2nd half is a positive to take to the locker room. A score to start the second half is great for getting the team back in the game.

If you are winning, an additional score to begin the second half demoralizes the other team. If you have the ball at the end of the first half and score, then get the ball at the beginning of the second half, that gives you the opportunity to score twice before the other team gets the ball back on offense. That could be 6 to 14 unanswered points without the other team having an opportunity to score.

I'd bet money that if Oregon wins the flip they take the ball.
