I'd say 5-5 in games that matter. Wiscy was a game of note. I get SEC plus bowl, but still...
This was a disappointing season. This was not a "get on the hot seat" season.
If the team had quit after Arky, it would be a lot more of a concern.

They damn sure quit during Arky...

Reading the tea leaves says yes. IF Chavis thought Miles' job was secure, then why would he get all bent out of shape about the "Miles clause" in his contract. I think that its obvious that he thinks that there is a chance Miles gets fired in the next few years.
I kind of disagree. I do think it has something to do with his reasons to leave but I honestly feel he was fed up with how Miles coaches the offense. I could be wrong but I feel that, plus the bump in pay had more to do with it than anything else. I truly believe that Chief wanted to see what his defenses could do with a fire power offense.

Didn't A&M offer him a big bump in money? Why does it have to be any more than contract $$$$$???

IMHO, Miles's days at LSU are numbered. I agree that in 3 or 4 years, he will be gone . . . forced out due to lackluster performance.

Agreed.
I had hoped that Miles could ride off into the sunset, but that rarely, if ever, happens.

The only place where Miles' tenure is in question is on this board so in short, no an assistant doesn't care.
The outside/rational world understands that Miles isn't going anywhere regardless of what the delusional part of our fan base thinks

Agreed. I know if I were a widely sought out coach I wouldn't come here. The expectations of the fan base are out of touch

No way Miles turns the offense around, loose or anything else.

Just having goodoleless at LSU hampers the DC search. Period.

No, great DC can ALWAYS find a great new gig when they ready

Man, does the "fan base" on the Rant overestimate its clout! What the fan base thinks means doodly squat regsrding decisions made about the head coach or his staff. I'd like to see the 50/50 split, IF it is that high, get behind the coach and players. There are some mighty questionable posts here to represent the "fan" base. Let the coaches coach, the players play and the fans support them. Yes, Les Miles aggravates me, too, to no end at times, but he is ours. Why undermine him?

Agreed. Yeah let's just fire the coach with the highest winning % in lsu history. Yeah that makes a lot of sense. In fact let him go and hire someone else who will have a losing season just so I can read more negative posts

Some of the answers here are very good. But to think miles is the answer to our problems that's nuts!!! With out a Offense and a good defense. How are we gonna keep good players on any side of the ball??? I think we are letting some good coaches maybe get away since we haven't made a decision yet may hurt us?? I can't see how people are still thinking miles is a great coach??? If you think we will have another 10 win season we are crazy.

By "fan base" I'm not just talking about Average Joe season ticket holder, I'm talking about the part of the fan base that donates BIG bucks, influential "friends of the program, & former players. If you think that segment of the fan base, & what they think, means doodley squat, you are mistaken. What is said on an anonymous internet message board means doodley squat but what is said on phone lines with direct lines to the AD office means a WHOLE lot.

No DC with a brain would pass on LSU out of some kind of fear that Les was on the way out
Well they don't seem to be lining up at the door.

Les' inability to adapt and general offensive philosophy are two in the "Cons" column.
However, the "Pros" will hopefully overcome that - great fans, facilities, athletes, pay, and cost of living.

True but if the DC is a good coach he could replace Miles, that is a HUGE opportunity.
Jimbo fisher comes to mind...

Miles is pretty much bullet proof at LSU for the next few yrs. LSU is not going to those people you listed, imo, and ask them for more funds to buy out a 15-20 mil. contract and then help advance another 3-5 mil. contract.
So, to reply to the question at hand, I don't think a new DC would give a shite bout coming to work for a HC who owns a 5 yr. contract.

Personally I see him retiring in 2
