Then Wednesday night in an 8-1 victory over Hofstra , Deichmann launched a 486-foot two-run homer that cleared "The Intimidator" billboard looming over the right field stands. The ball was found across a parking lot next to a utility shed and is now in the possession of Deichmann's mother.

"That's the best swing I've taken on a ball in awhile," he said. "You always strive for more, but I think it's going to need little more wind if it's going to go more than 486 right now."

When Deichmann made it back to the dugout, he was greeted by Mainieri who asked him with a knowing grin, "Did you get all of it?"

The most glorious swing and connection I've seen out of LSU baseball in years. I think it was still traveling upwards when it passed over the RF'er

The right fielder????

That ball was still traveling upwards when it passed over the RF bleachers.

Yeah, that was so amazing. He turned around and took a step and just watched. He knew that thing wasn't coming down any time soon.

He didn't even make an attempt. I was watching on TV, so all I caught was him just standing there watching it, but I busted out laughing as soon as the camera panned to him.

I remember Leon Landry launching one in 2009 or 2010. It was one of the first games of the season. That ball was absolutely crushed man.

Shat is already the informal past tense, so no need to add the "ed"

But yes, he did indeed.

Watch the people in the RF bleachers. They do the exact same thing as the RF did

Obviously they aren't going to make a break on the ball like the fielder, but you usually see some scrambling to get out the way, or catch it from people in the stands. They just turned and watched too.

I need to go back and watch the pitcher to see if he watches it, or just asks the umpire for a new ball.

I have Mickey Mahtook's 2nd HR in his career at LSU that he hit over the score board. I wouldnt mind giving it to him. I wonder how far that was cause i watched it fly over the score board and i picked it up way off in the construction area at the time.

ETA: using Google Earth, Mahtooks HR was around that probably further.

That article excites me more about Slaughter than anything. I like a kid with something to prove.

He's been a very pleasant surprise so far. It's comforting to know he can prevent some throwing errors by infielders.

Thru 25 PA, opposing pitchers trying to work Greg Deichmann on outside edge of zone... it hasn't worked, he leads #LSU with a 1.340 OPS

And didn't I tell you I could help you with that? Remind me in the Fall, after the mlb season is over.
