I thought Hester was living off of 3 guys being in the box when Evangel spread everyone out. I admit my hatred for Evangel could've clouded my judgement.

The only thing I saw that worried my about Scott was the inability to separate.

He separated more than Hester ever did. He's not the burner, but where Hester got 12, Scott can get 50-60 if not more. By the same token, he might not get you those tough 2-3 that Hester seemed to get every time.

I didn't want him to be good, but he ran over some pretty big boys.

Just watched the game again, Scott showed excellent vision, which is the biggest thing that made Hester so successful last year. Very nice game against an overmatched opponent, he cut back into openings several times.

Good first game. Auburn will be the true test for all of our guys, but Scott looked fine yesterday.

Murphy and Ridley ran hard and looked pretty good in limited action. KW had one nice run but mostly seemed to take the day off, especially that run to the right that he basically gave up on. That one upset me when I saw it and again when I watched the replay. I suspect he's not going to be a happy camper when the coaches review the film.

Believe me, I'm no fan of Evangel either, but it only took one game for me to become a Hester fan.

Same here. I watched a HS playoff game where Evangel committed 120+ yards in personal foul penalties alone. No respect for that team.

But in that same game Hester used his leg strength to constantly break tackles against 280 pound linemen. I have never seen a tougher HS runner.

I don't think I mentioned JH. Scott can get those long runs, but he does seem to get nabbed from behind. I think Murphy and Williams have the afterburners. Don't get me wrong, Scott is explosive, but I would have liked to have seen that burst to put him out of reach, or at least a cut across the grain.

Jacob Hester was much more versatile, and contributed a lot to the passing game as well. So, no...Hester was better

West Monroe had no passing game for Tommy to contribute to. But I'm sure he could have. And he could have started at linebacker too if they needed him, but they didn't.

I'm biased, but I really don't think so. Though I'm not sure I'd have put as many >s as JJ.

I went to West Monroe(way older than Hester, though) and got to watch him pretty much dominate probably the most physical team in the state. He was very, very impressive.

according to ou812/DocFeelgood, Hester is really only 5'7" 160 and Luke Sanders ran him down from about 50 yards away to make a TD saving tackle...

Scott isn't a finesse back. I like that. Once the season moves on and he gets in a groove barring injury, he'll be like Ed Gennero....a rampaging beast.

There's no way in hell Hester was better. Tommy didn't have the defense spread out with 4 receiver sets every down. EVERYONE knew Tommy was going to get the ball and he still had over 2,000 yards and 40 touchdowns his senior year. Tommy also was a very good receiver out of the backfield. I'm not talking 280lb OL Banks at LSU. I'm talking 230lb Tommy Banks that outran Carencro's secondary for a 50 yard touchdown, one of 3 touchdowns in the finals. Tommy single handedly carried WM to that title in 96. Hester played with Rawls and Booty.

Did Hester play with Berlin? I think Berlin graduated before Hester came up.

But yeah, when he comes to pure running, Banks was better in high school.

Somewhere Steve Dollar is pissed.

And Tommy really was an unbelievable high school running back.

Was thinking Hester was a freshman when Berlin was there. Then he had Rawls-signed with OU. Then he had JDB.

Damn...My team was trying to get him to give us some money for World too. Maybe I should retract that statement.

Steve's the manager of Cane's on Louisville supposedly.

Well, Hester's last season in high school was the 2003 season. He graduated in '04 so his freshman year was the 2000 season when Rawls was the QB.

Isn't that the year the Purple Knights of St. Augustine beat them in their own backyard?

Yeah, they lost to St. Aug. I edited it to Rawls.
