JJ did OK. The things that looked good (lack of INT's) were caused by things that also held him back.

Would hope to see major improvement next year.

He can't read defenses nor can he pick out secondary receivers. He also is not a "field general" as he doesn' realize 11 men are required to be on the field (not 10 or 12) plus he doesn't know at least 7 are required on the line of scrimmage.

Thats what happens when a QB is playing for the worst offensive coaching staff in the conference. He would have been developed better at any WAC or C-USA school this year, than he was at LSU.

I disagree. He would have been developed better at almost any WAC or C-USA school this year.

By rest of the world you mean the part that does not actually view any sports media, such as total offense ranking?

If that's how you define rest of the world, I guess you are right.

I like JJ as a kid. Class act and good kid in general. As a qb, he's avg. Nothing special. Reminds me of a taller Herb Tyler. Tyler was a tad better runner, JJ is a tad better passer. We will never go to a BCS with such inconsistant qb play and that starts with JJ. In my opinion, we need to make a change at qb if we are to challenge the Bamas and Fla's for the SEC title. Again, like the kid and have nothing against him, just don't think he has what it takes to be an elite SEC qb.

was outstanding. JJ is not in Tyler's league at this point. Now, he's got 2 more years and that's plenty of time to accomplish lots and distinguish himself, but comparison's to Tyler are just not valid.

Yes. This season, I figured he'd have maybe 2 or 3 games like this:

4-for-15, 50 yards. 0 TD, 1 INT, pulled during the game.

Well, he didn't have any games this bad, and over the season I believe I saw improvement, especially from the Auburn game on. I doubt he'll ever be a Heisman candidate, but I believe he'll be good enough to help us be even more competitive in 2010.

Now, that is realistic and I agree. In fact, I'm hoping he is good enough to lead us to the SECCG next year.

A few of the LSU fans just don't understand how long it takes for young qbs to learn an offense. Let's look at history... History tells us that MOST qbs are redshirted unless they are forced to play like Jefferson. Also, qbs do not usually start until their redshirt sophmore or junior year. When they start their redshirt sophmore year they tend to make a lot of mistakes but have decent numbers. Qbs generally mature greatly during their redshirt junior year. Considering JJ is a true sophmore I believe he did as expected. I believe he has a chance to be real good by his senior year which would normally be a redshirt junior year. Now look at some of the great programs that started young players and you will understand the complexities and challenges of a young qb, like USC and Oklahoma. They are struggling mightily. But u fans EXPECT greatness immediately. You just don't understand football other than what you see on Saturdays. I do want greatness of the TEAM and expect it in time because I see that the team has improved from last year. If you can't see improvement then it proves one of two things, you know nothing about college football or you are blind. Which one is it?

No he didn't exceed my expectations. I think his best games are ahead of him. I could have sworn he was playing with a concussion in the second half of the season. That whole sitting there dumbfounded thing without moving after big hits... he sure looked like his bell was rung on those.

He's a kid in the mini NFL. I'm proud of the way he's gotten through it and I hope that our new Offensive staff can take him and make him more relaxed and confident in the pocket as well as improving the pocket itself with better blocking.

If that happens, this kid is going to be very, very good.

Right now he's getting a B from me. That's pretty damned good for a 19 year old kid at QB in one of the top programs in the country.

no, but he was poorly instructed and coached by the Les/Gary experiment.

He's not a running QB, he's a pro style QB. He can't even run the option correctly, that was Herb's bread and butter.

What is "a BCS"

Flynn was no better than JJ.

Yea, why dont we bench JJ so we can go into OUR THIRD STRAIGHT SEASON with a QB who has ZERO EXPERIENCE.

yes, I didn't have high expectations though. I anticipated a guy that would do a pretty good job of protecting the football and make a play in the passing game for us every now and then.

In order for us to have been successful offensively this year we NEEDED to be able to run the football effectively.

he underperformed. missed a few too many throws, and didn't show good pocket awareness. he's coming along though, and I saw improvement, just need to see some consistency.

I agree with the guys on defense. The new coaching staff has done well, what about offense.

I dont agree with Barksdale. Lafell is no better than last year but a lil better than 07.
