DeShea Townsend too? But I think that was in the 90's. For a powerhouse, S. Panola doesn't put out too many studs. Or am I forgeting some players?
A lot of them have flopped in recent years, not because they lacked talent, but because they either lacked discipline (and got fat and lazy) or couldn't stay in school or both.
Chris Strong, Eddie's protege, was a prime recent example. So was Chris Herring, who was either a 4- or 5-star D-line prospect a few years ago.
The school does a very poor job of getting its athletes ready academically, so a lot of them don't qualify.
And that, of course, has hurt us, too, since we have been so reliant on that pipeline......
Even with that, though, 3-4 of our current starters are from South Panola and there are a lot more on the roster.
It has been THE power program in Mississippi and one of the top 10-15 in the country for some time now.....
In fact, they have won 79 games in a row, if you can believe that (!!!), including games against the best teams in neighboring states, most recently against Apopka (Florida)....

Fitzhugh would be another that could crack two deep.

He signed with Ole Miss, then flunked out of school and enrolled at Northwest Junior College and I think he flunked out there, too.
Don't quote me on that, though.

Excellent football player who definitely opted for MSU over LSU, as oppose to LSU not being interested. He was actually one of our top targets that year. Dude is just a great football player.

South Panola, the high school he comes from, is Ole Miss's #1 feeder school, and he is just about the only prospect from there that we have not signed in the last decade....
He went to State because you guys fired Cutcliffe.

I remember wanting this kid to come to LSU really baddly and thought we might get him because Webster and T. Daniels were leaving. Instead I've been watching him be increadable for MSU for the past few years. Croom has screwed him over IMO by playing him at saftey. That helps the Moo State defense, but he is a natural corner and would have been an easy first rounder at CB. Since he's at saftey, I know he will go first day, but not so sure about first rounder anymore.

I was the referee in the MS State Championship game his junior year when S. Panola beat Oak Grove. He played QB and CB, and was all over the field. I knew State signed a stud when I found out that's where he was going.

Ole Miss has 3 starters from South Panola.
Jamarca Sanford
John Jerry
Peria Jerry
Tig & Bud Barkesdale were studs last year that didn't make their grades.
Tig was all world... academic problems have been a huge problem for a bunch of the top prospects out of South Panola. They are stacked every year with 3-5 big time D1 prospects.

He should have been in white, not maroon!
