Defense will be back this year. Too many quotes from players stating that defense should have been better given the talent level this year and that they had no confidence in coordinators. Alexander even says intensity is like Saban years. Can't wait for the fall.

should be better, don't expect anything spectacular. don't really have the right linebackers yet for the Chavis system

Can't be much worse. Still with a lot of talent. Coaches will have them position to make plays. Watch.

While I agree on the linebackers, I think we will see MASSIVE improvement. If nothing else, people will understand their assignments, defensive line will get more pressure and the the safety help will be greatly improved.

I'm kinda witcha on that one. Seeing is believing though I expect improvements...just getting the call in on time and those WTF looks on players' faces off would be monumental.

Chavis is on record as saying that he saw three LB's to run his system on the first day of practice.

quote:

Said Jacob Cutrera, “As of right now, we’ve got three linebackers staying in for every personnel. That’s good for us. (Chavis) gives us some confidence.” Said linebacker Perry Riley, “Chavis told me personally, ‘If I can find three linebackers who can do it, I’m going to have my linebackers out there all the time. There’s no need for me to take you all out. I want you to be the heart and strength of the defense.” LSU will stay in the 4-3 look (four linemen, three linebackers) it had for years. However, the emphasis will be on less swapping out, less trying to get into nickel coverage (with one extra defensive back and one less linebacker). Riley said, after the first day, Chavis told him he’s already seen the three linebackers who could make this work.

LB's

They can't be all that bad.

Agreed and kinda would be hard not to improve, though. So I think its more of a question of how much we improve, b/c its said to say that if we improve we could still have a bad D

They'll be better because Chavis is a damn good coordinator, and LSU is one of the most talented programs in the country, especially on that side of the ball.

That is all.

Florida would be the measure of the spread in the SEC, yes

I know not many DCs have figured them out... but when your weakest position on the team in terms of talent is LB, why would you not look to get another athlete/Safety in the game when ou could?
