Interesting how optimistic we are about the defense this coming year. No question could be Aranda's best. Just interesting to watch ESPN today about the upcoming college football season. When they discussed best defensive teams, I don't believe LSU was even mentioned. A lovefest for Clemson and a lot of love for Michigan. Perhaps I didn't pay a lot of attention last year to Michigan, and didn't know they were so highly regarded defensively.
So, in ESPN's eyes, LSU's defense not given a lot of attention. Perhaps they mentioned after I walked away, but the segment I watched made no mention. Just an FYI

Uburn, and LSU will have the two best defenses in the SEC(barring major injuries). That generally puts them near the top of all of college ball.I dont care what the talking heads say.I care what Aranda says, and our defense is gonna be very good.

The defense should be good. Could be great.

We’ll see vs a solid Miami offense how good they can be.

Well, Clemson just might have the best DL in the nation; and their back 4 aren't bad either. So I can see talking about them. And don't forget, they have Venables.

However, I think we have a very very good DL and one of the best LB corps in the nation. Now that Fulton is back, we've upgraded a shallow but excellent back 4 also.

While I get why they are talking about Clemson I don't get why we are being undersold. I'm okay with it though.

The only worry, that Clemson doesn't have as much a problem with, is that the offense/STs can make a good D look bad.

we need to start beating high-profile teams yes but that's only because these rankings are so crap and lackluster that you need to get their attention to give an honest assessment. If they did their research it wouldn't matter

Except ESPN and the article that came out last week stating we had the 6th best defense in the SEC.

Michigan had the #3 total defense and #13 scoring defense last year and return 10 starters on defense.

For comparison, LSU had the #12 total defense and #14 scoring defense last year and return 6 starters on defense.

Clemson has the best defensive line in the country as others have mentioned.
