The defense under DA was always good at making adjustments and timely stops, which in today’s CFB is more important than defensive rankings.

Best offense maybe. The D was good enough to win but not good enough for a “best team” consideration. Just the way it is.

While there is some truth to defensive rankings, you have to consider the teams played, schedule, yards per play, etc. What Aranda’s defense did near the end of the year in the stretch run was really fantastic. It’s all about being the piece that particular teams needs to be successful.

This year LSU was able to rest people early because the offense was so good it didn’t matter which led to them getting healthy in the back end of the season. Les’s teams were always beat to hell by the end of the regular season because of his “keep in close and win it in the 4th quarter”.

So, yeah, stats tell some of the story but not the whole.

2017- #14 is still pretty good
2018- let's call this one a "bad" season
2019- it's not even possible for a team scoring that many points that quickly to have a top 5 defense

Could this perhaps be due to the offenses in the SEC?

Probably so, but it doesn't fit the idiots on the rants narrative. Instead, most would rather bash Aranda.

His last 4 games at LSU (3 against top 5 teams) were some of his most dominant. GTFO

Statistics may say that this year was his worst but if you watched games LSU was lights out at end of the year.
Rare tryst a team has top Offense and Def I same year. The last 4 games we may have had best offense and one of top def.

2017- 14th ranked

Mississippi St game pretty much stopped that from being a top 10 defense.

2018- 26th ranked

This was all the TAMU game. That ridiculous OT kept this team from being the 14th ranked defense.

2019- 31st ranked

This was literally a product of playing a lot of potent offenses.

LSU played
#2
#4
#6
#17
#28
#28 (yes they were tied)

Those offenses don't even include UGA an TAMU who were both top 62. That's on top of trying to support a high powered offense.

Exactly. And, like you also mentioned, when you score as often and as quick as we were scoring, it's going to skew the numbers a little bit.

The rant trying to turn DA into a shitty defensive coordinator is one of the weirdest things in my opinion.

Aranda seemed to use a rope- a -dope defensive approach. Let the opponent think what they are doing in the first half will work all game and then Bam, Aranda sticks it to them in the second half. We just won a Natty with him so we will certainly miss him. Just my 2 cents.
