He thinks the offensive line play was sufficiently non-atrocious to credit them with having 5 or 6 players on the field? He should (and probably does) know it wasn't all on the quarterbacks, but he says what he thinks his listeners want to hear, and he was on Finebaum.

how about the throw to chris tolliver vs alabama?

Huh? I'm pretty sure Chris Tolliver never recorded a statistic last year even though he played. So whatever you might be talking about didn't even count because there was a penalty. I think I know what you're talking about, but we're talking deep ball here and I don't remember that really being a deep ball. Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly. I remember a nice completion for about a 20-yard gain that got us a 1st down until it was called back. JL did start off that game with some nice throws.

Look at Auburn - JJ played pretty awesome in that one. He threw for over 240 yards with 2 passing TDs and had impressive runs that included a rushing TD. Yet, we still didn't average 4 yards per carry. And that was with a 69-yard run from Shep (our longest in three years). Charles Scott averaged 2 yards per carry.

He did play well. That game and the Peach Bowl were his two best as a Tiger. But, the week before, he was pathetic against Florida so Auburn came into our game taking away the run and daring JJ to beat them. Kudos to him that he did. And don't think for a second his good first half play led to bigger holes in the second half including the Shepard TD run.

quote:

Even against Ole Miss and Penn State when JJ threw for over 200 in each, we averaged 1 yard per rush. They weren't his best games, but the passing game was pretty much it in those games.

He didn't play well in either game. Against Ole Miss he barely completed half his passes and 42 of his yards came on what was supposed to be the hail mary to Toliver that was thrown outside of the end zone and left 1 second on the clock. He was sacked 4 times. 2 of them were crucial--once in the first half he took a sack in Rebel territory on 3rd and 6 late in the second quarter that prevented us from attempting a FG or a makeable 4th down attempt. Then, of course, he was sacked with 35 second left that killed the clock.

Against PSU, again he was like 54% on the day and throw a costly pick inside our our own 30 that led to PSU points. And since when did 202 passing yards become awesome?

Not sure if 15% is the exact amount, but neither QB has to change dramatically

JJ- take some shots downfield any don't worry about IF it gets picked.

JL - take an extra second to scan the D pre snap and plant your back foot when you throw.

If these small things happen, which they should easily do, plus improved Oline play would mean a special season.

I AM A BELIEVER!!! ( For now )

alot of these morons on this board dont like GD mainly b/c he doesnt suck LSU's cock.
However dude is very knowledgeable and often calls things or explains things you wouldnt catch.
I dvr all games and look forward to replays with his calls.

Verne on the other hand is riding shotgun due to seniority.

Jefferson - 19/37 250 yards 2 TDS

LSU Rushing - 18 attempts for 72 yards, 0 TDs

Yeah, our passing game was obviously the problem here.

Jefferson - 13/24, 216 yards, 1 TD

LSU Rushing - 17 attempts for 31 yards, 1 TD

Yeah, our passing game was obviously the problem here.

Yep. I remember the time he warned that JL threw a pick the last time the O and D were each in a particular formation, then JL threw another one right after he said it. Wish I could remember what game that was...

I sometimes think Danielson might have a clue, but I heard him today and was disappointed that he showed so little depth of analysis.
It it would be difficult for any qb to be successful the way the o line played last year.
We may have a qb problem, but there is no way to tell that from last year. No running game and little time to throw overshadowed any talent or lack of it we have at qb.

It certainly wasn't great. Going into the final play, JJ completed exactly half of his passes for 208 yards. That's 5.7 yards per attempt. I noticed you left out his 9 carries for negative 32 yards--those would be 4 sacks, offsetting 5 regular carries by a magnitude of -32 yards. And two of those sacks were absolute KILLERS. Late second quarter inside Rebel territory. And of course the sack on second down at the Rebel 32 that took us out of FG range.

And let's not forget the INT in the first quarter inside our own 40. Fortunately we blocked the FG and PP took it to the house, but this wasn't JJ's finest moment of QB-ing.

Does it need to improve? Yes

I think that was a jab at Gary Crowton. He has been on the mark calling all of our games. I pointed this out in 2008. The dude was shot callin pick 6's. Maybe we didn't hear the whole piece. He may have made a reference to allowing the QB to make mistakes this year versus holding him back. Expecting him to be more aggressive and lead his team. With that sai, I expect 3000+ yeards this year as I believe the run will open the pass and those 2 will have a great year.
