quote:

What those numbers do not tell you is the number of times he failed to throw to open receivers. Also, his yards per pass attempt is 5.7. That is anemic, but feel free to trumpet what an effective passer he is.
It's actually 6.8, but that's still bad. I posted this a couple days ago but even in Daniels worst year at ASU he was 51st in yards per attempts and that was 7.9. For reference over the last 10 years at LSU, only Etling, Mett, and Burrow's 2nd year at LSU were higher than Daniels worst year at ASU (guys that's started full years). His freshman year he was 13th in the country in yards per attempt, and had 5 300+ yard passing games including one that went over 400 yards. He also had another at 284.

I said all that to say, this isn't even his final form yet. Kid will be a nightmare to play against by week 8. Once the confidence comes in and everything he does become more natural and second nature, he's going to explode in the passing game.

"He has played well but a deceptive stat where stats don't tell the full story. When you have no confidence throwing anticipation routes you're not going to throw many INTs and you're also not going to have many yards throwing which he doesn't have."

BINGO!

I really do hope you're right, but it's worth noting that he's playing against SEC competition now. That's an overused argument, but it is a step up.

Asked about his quarterback, Kelly said Jayden Daniels would tell you there’s room for improvement in terms of recognition, getting the ball out on time and being more efficient in the passing game. He added that Daniels had a really good week of practice and that this offense is still new to him. Daniels was a pro-style quarterback at Arizona State, per Kelly, and this is a very different setup for him. “He’s starting to be more comfortable with it,” he said.
