I believe 8 teams from the SEC will make the tourney.

Locks: Auburn, Tennessee, Kentucky, A&M, Bama, Arkansas, Mizzou

8th team (in the air): UGA, LSU, Miss. St., Florida

UGA and UF losing today was huge. We need those other 3 teams to lose one or two more and we need to have a total of 4 more wins from our regular season and tournament to make it.

Side thought: SEC is taking over in all sports. Basketball was one that we usually aren't high on but we are growing.

you have to look at RPI to make sense of why two teams we beat twice are in and we may be out

Mizzou 40
Texas A&M 26
LSU 74

what hurts us compared to them is SOS we are 46 A&M 6 Mizzou 24

source

more notes

MSU 63
Florida 64
Georgia 70
LSU 74

This will change come selection time

Pull against MSU Florida and UGA and of course

Florida is playing their way out, but I do think one of the other teams you mention can fill that void.

I'd love for it to be us but to be honest I think State has the better shot. I watched them really destroy Texas A&M on the road the other night. They lost a buzzer-beating heartbreaker in Nashville recently or they'd be in even better shape. I always thought Howland was an excellent coach and his third year has been excellent wherever he's been. I would love to see our game with them mean something at the end of the year...we need to take care of our own business to do that and the road has not been kind to us since early in the SEC schedule.

Georgia however is a offensively challenged group though and I think that will keep us in the game even if we are not shooting particularly well. Geaux Tigers.

The thing is there is no "quota" for teams from a conference. Just because Florida plays themselves out does't mean another SEC team will replace them. All teams are considered "independents" when selecting the field.

State is playing well right now and that win @ A&M was enormous for their tournament chances. Hopefully LSU can at least split the next two road games to make the season finale a very big game.

It's hard to say if State has the better shot. They certainly have more opportunity ahead of them with games vs. Tenn. and @ LSU. But side by side there are arguments that LSU has the better resume (right now, of course)

MSU

3 Q1 wins; SOS: 101; RPI 63. 4-5 vs. RPI top 50 They beat no one of note in non-conf. play. Hell, other than Cincinnati, they played no one of real note in OOC play. The win @ A&M was the first real huge win they've had on the season.

LSU

5 Q1 wins; SOS: 48; RPI: 74. 7-5 vs. RPI top 50 LSU played a much tougher non-conf. schedule. Of LSU's 5 biggest wins 3 have been away from home (A&M, Ark., Michigan). That's a HUGE deal.

The ONLY metric that favors MSU is RPI. That's it! LSU has more "good" wins against a MUCH tougher schedule. AND, LSU has not only won more games away from home, they've beaten good teams away from home.

If the final spot in the NCAAT comes down to LSU vs. MSU, I like LSU's chances...A lot!

Yes, I realize that I think you may have misinterpreted what I was trying to say, understood as I'm not always clear.

I would just love for the game to be meaningful at year's end, it would be fun.

There is a quota of 64 though, so every bubble team playing poorly helps LSU.

I really hope this team makes it to the dance. Will be a testament to the impact Will Wade has had thus far. This team has already overachieved even if we would lose the rest of the remaining games on the schedule. Making the dance will really be great for the teams psyche, especially the returning seniors.
