what does it all mean?
sherman was the first lsu chancellor. he set up lsu in alexandria in 1860. he left la. to support the usa.
then, the kkk is marching at ol miss this weekend to support that "the south will rise again."

then:
why keep crying over the woman/coach that left you for someone else. can you appreciate the one who helped you thru the separation/divorce?

the past is the past. i don't know the future.
but, like they say: KARMA.

I didn't read thru all the posts so if Germans, sorry.

I think a better comparison for this argument was what Miles accomplished at Okie St.vs Saban at LSU.

When Les took over here at Okie St. it was in MUCH worse shape than LSU was when Saban took over at LSU. For one thing, Les did not inherit the caliber of players from Bob Simmons that Saban inherited from DiNardo. Okie St. does not have the recruiting base or in-state advantage LSU has either.

I don't recall Les' record exactly here at Okie St. but he left with a winning record, beat nationally ranked OU twice, took them to bowls for the first time in ages and laid the foundation for Mike Gundy to have a successful program. In my opinion he did a better job in turning around a moribund program with fewer advantages at Okie St. than Saban did at LSU.

I have no reason to believe that he wouldn't have done at least as good a job as Saban.

And on top of all that, Les doesn't have to be an a-hole to do it!

I don't know how you made that leap from what I said, but I guess, if the shoe fits, wear it!

No, he couldn't.

I'm still amazed at the level of hatred and envy that people have for Saban. He took over an average team/program and proceeded to put LSU football in a position to enjoy consistent success like it had NEVER seen before. He left LSU football in a much better place than when he found it.

I'd prefer to just say "thank you" and wish him well.

DING DING! If he had left LSU for Alabama, I would not have the respect I have for him. He thought he wanted an NFL job, took it and then realized he missed college. He took the best job he could get which was Alabama

This thread isn't an anti-Saban thread.

Saban is a good coach. He's at least as good as DiNardo and Arnsparger. I'd say that DiNardo pulled LSU out of a far greater tailspin than Saban did.

after denardo beat saban in shreveport, saban began to apply for the lsu job. he saw the talent that was at lsu and also that denardo had a terrible d.c.

yes, saban is a d genius, but the natural la o was at least half of his success.

yes, miles could have come in and done the same, if, he got any d.c. besides denardo's.
denardo showed the possible greatness of lsu.

Saban needed a Syracuse victory over Notre Dame and a Boise St. vicory over Hawaii on the final week of the 2003 season for LSU to juimp USC in the BCS rankings.

If Saban had not won the BCS championship that year, neither he nor Miles would have won a BCS Championship.

Without those championships, LSU is comparable to Georgia this decade and the Saban myth never happened.

Lose to Iowa and leave?
Truth be told Dinardo saved this program.

why show 4 years of miles, but only include 3 years of ok st? when that 1997 season was an 8-4 one.

anyway, if you wanna pick random years, ok st has shown potential to be a top 10 program. for example from '83 to '88 they were in the top 10 in the NCAA in winning %

Saban lost 13-10 to UAB in 2000, Miles does not have a loss near that embarrassing!

There is no doubt Saban "revived" the LSU program but he had a lot to work with. I'm not sure how he would have fared in 2005, dealing w/ post-Katrina. Saban is all about, well, Saban, and I don't think he would have handled the adversity as well as Miles did, b/c I think deep down, Les has more character than Nick. Nick is a better Xs and O's coach, to be sure, but I think he's full of sh!t and he actually believes his own sh!it, and, truth be told, does a great job selling recruits on his brand of BS.

This makes absolutely no sense. In the last two games, Saban had been outcoached by Miles. In the first, he lost.

It does if you watch the games objectively. With a better QB than Lee last year, we win. If Peterson, Scott, and Jefferson stay healthy this year, we win.

You don't know that.

What does that have to do with coaching??? LSU had a chance to put Bama away when these guys were healthy. FAIL.

Explain how this happens when we only scored one TD out of 7 possessions with a healthy JJ and Scott.

When these guys were healthy, we were up 15-10 and one more TD would have put the game away. We were getting beat in the trenches, but the coaching staff worked around that to nevertheless control the game.

Wrong. Lee lead us to our 2nd TD, not JJ. Scott was injured on that drive.
